Help! Please!!! On the verge of heading back.

Hi there guys, I was directed here by some of the folk on pomsinoz (http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/news-c...t-go-home.html). My partner and I have a real problem: we've just moved to Perth last Tuesday and we have the use of a flat until next Tuesday when a) the owners return and b) our dogs arrive from Sydney quarantine.

We've spent every waking hour looking for a rental that a) isn't a hovel and b) will allow our dogs. We have two elderly dogs who are utterly well behaved. To make matters worse I've come down with some horrible virus that seems to be made worse by the air con. I seriously think we may have to look at going back to Scotland. In fact I'm thinking I *want* to go back home.

Before that happens can anyone help - please! We would love to secure a place either in the hills, Mundaring for example, or perhaps as far down on the coast as Waikiki. We've seen a few places but no one wants to entertain us because of the dogs. Our budget is a maximum of $550 a week for the moment.

Any ideas and suggestions will be most welcome.

      Thanks guys.

      Alan

Would you consider moving further south? Not sure what your job situation is but there tend to be more pet-friendly rentals in the Bunbury area. They are also a lot cheaper than in Perth. Have a look at www.gumtree.com.au to start with. The Perth rental market is very difficult and I understand your frustration. Hang in there.

Did you have any luck with the one I pm`d you on PIO I know it was in in Port Kennedy which is 5minutes from Waikiki, but certainly didn`t look like a slum. It may be a case of taking anything that accepts pets - even if not in your ideal area or your dream home, just to give you breathing space until you find exactly what you want.

What about something like this ??http://www.realestate.com.au/propert...kiki-406590561 There seesm to be a few around Waikiki, Safety Bay and Shoalwater where pets are considered. It may be a case of putting dogs in kennels for a couple of extra weeks and moving in to short term holiday accom until something comes up.Don`t do search for pets allowed (it narrows your options too much) instead search an area then look at individual houses that take your fancy to see if the ad states pets considered.

Hey there , i also popped a link on pio ..on your thread regarding some house here in Baldivis 5 mins from Waikiki , one was free now and and pets neg and there were a couple on there that said the same :) GJ is right , search houses first not all that don't mention pets mean they will not have them ... ask all the agents , usually with a dog bond and a bit added on the price they will be ok also stress the age of the dogs and breed , most don't want puppies or dogs that will wreck a house ... for good reasons :) good luck and try not to give up .

Thanks guys, very much appreciated. I'm going to see the Shelton St house this afternoon. We did a drive-by of it last week and it looks ideal. We also looked at one in Secret Harbour which would also have been great but I think commuting to Bentley from there might be really difficult- unless anyone knows different?

Also had a look at a property up in Chidlow but it had no mains water and the drive into the city from there was long.

This is going to be a long week I think, my partner Cat began work today and I'm stuck in this place :-( Still coughing as well.

      Hey Mesmer,
I brought my 2no. dogs with me too and thought I'd never find a rental. Applied for at least 10no. places all of which were refused. In the end, as somebody else here mentioned, I offered a little bit extra on the rent per week and got 2no. applications approved this way.
The place I'm in is not an ideal location for me but I needed a rental and its only a 6month lease.

I wouldn't be put off by anywhere that says they don't want pets. I know a few people who've managed to successfully negotiate having pets in a place. Just depends on the landlord I guess. Good luck!
It's hard enough remembering my opinions, without remembering my reasons for them...

You don`t have to be stuck - make a point of getting out and about, even if it`s just for a walk. It can be very easy to go stir crazy and become isolated when partner is working and you are not.
