Hi Everyone.
Just a quickie to introduce myself as I am new to this site. I moved to Perth 8 months ago with my husband & 4 year old daughter. My husbands employers sponsored us on a 457 visa. Have had some ups & downs but at present feel very happy & settled.
Look forward to chatting to you all & offering any advice I can.

Leigh :D

Hi Leigh,

My Wife, two boys (2 and 4) and myself will be moving to Perth at some point in Feb 2008, waiting on Visa confirmation etc. Will be looking to move somewhere along the Perth to Joondalup train line, Joondalup or surrounding area possibly. Do you have any advice at all on a good location? Also, my Wife is a little concerened about the possibility of the kids getting involved with the local spiders!! Are they in abundance?

We're on a right roller coaster at the moment, one day insane with excitement, the next thinking "what on earth are we doing"! Just need to get out there I think, all the time spent thinking about it and not doing it is brain damage.

Any advice would be fantastic.

Cheers

Justin, Emma, George & Henry

Hi Karen & helenjayne, thanks for your replies.

Hi Justin, I always think it's very difficult giving advise on suburbs. What is the perfect place for some others could hate it. You really can't decide until you get here & see for yourself. However, imo, you can't go far wrong with suburbs surrounding Joondalup.

As far as spiders go, well, we've been here 10 months & I haven't seen a huntsman yet & only saw my first redback last week. My daughter loves spiders, tells me they're her friends & she gives them names! I do keep telling her to stay away. I would advise to spray the kids outdoor toys.

Don't worry about the rollercoaster feelings, it's perfectly normal. I remember it well!!

Good luck with the visas.

Hi Leigh,

Thanks for getting back to me, and for the info.

I think you're right, and I think we're going to concentrate on Joondalup initially. The thing is we can take a 6m rental, and move if we don't like it!

As for the spider's, we're getting similar reports from everyone, so Emma now feels a little calmer. My new Manager, once we get there of course, has been in Perth for many years now said he's only seen a handful from a few feet away.

Speak soon,

Justin
