Can anyone confirm whether or not a UK digital TV will work in Australia. We are getting conflicting info on this; someone has advised to buy one in UK as very expensive with you, others say they won;t work at all. This info is coming from various shops in UK.
Help! Wd appreciate confirmation or otherwise from someone who has actually taken out their UK bought TV.

We brought ours over & it works fine. Although I don't agree that they are cheaper in the UK. I would say they are more expensive.

G'day
I think that TV's are cheaper here in Oz although it doesn't surprise me that shops in the UK want you to buy there.
Usually TV's from the UK work here fine although with some TV's the tuner can not cope with the different signals used here for digital transmission. A simple solution is (if necessary) buy a cheap set top box (under $60) and use that. The STB just connects to your tv as an AV device. If you subscribe to Foxtel that can, but not allways provide the free to air channels; along with lots of other gumph.
We brought our UK TV's with us and still use them all after connect stb's and foxtel boxes and dvd players. It's time soon to buy one of those big job's that take up a wall so at that point I'll be selling the UK tv's.

Hi There,
just wondered if the dvb-t tuners in uk integrated digital TVs work in oz. I have been on panasonic.com.au, which says the oz digital standard will be dvb-t??
i take on board the previous posts that a set top box could also be used, but got the impression that might have been an older style analogue tuner set.
has anyone had any luck with their built in freeview, would be grateful for any "gen" before we pack?
Cheers paul

A modern TV wil work when used in conjunction with an OZ set top box or Sky (Foxtel). They are about 30 % more expensive here, but I would still buy here just to be safe. The shops sell a lot of very outdated stuff here, stuff that Comet were selling 3 or 4 years ago, you can get current technology, but you will need to know what you are looking at, do your research in other words.
PS they don't use scart leads here - all HDMI or component

Our TV works fine without set top box or foxtel.

It must have a built in tuner, maybe I should have said it wont receive sound on a terestrial signal.

I did a bit of quick research as we plan to get a plasma when we get out there. I found the 42" to 50" plasmas to be around 20% more expensive out in Oz. However, I would not buy one and take it for two reasons: (1) Warranty validation and being able to take it back to where I bought it if it went wrong and (2) I would worry how well it might travel. I will be taking our two TVs from UK and using them with Foxtel boxes, DVD players and games consoles, so they should be fine for that.
The way I look at it, petrol is half the price out there that it is here, so I will save back the extra I have to pay for a telly very quickly :-)

remember - exchange values have changed!
Its not really that they are more expensive over here - its just the exchange.
The wages make up for it (the ease of work placement too)

It maybe worth making sure that your very upto date TV in the UK can also be worked on here by a TV repair shop. As someone mentioned the latest TV here is possibly 3 years old in the UK which means on the reverse a UK high tech TV transported here may not be able to be fixed here because no one knows about it yet!
