Hi Everyone. I'm 38 married with two girls aged 7,10 and we are at the beginning stages of thinking seriously (instead of dreaming) about emigrating to Perth. I am a staff nurse and will be coming over on my visa, my hubby will be working as a draftsmen and I was wondering how any nurses (or working mums) cope with childcare after school and during the summer holidays. I'm willing to work part-time/flexi to be there for my kids, but how realistic is this. I would really appreciate any advice

Hope to hear from anyone soon :D

We too are looking into perth ,my wife is a rgn, and we also have daughters aged 8 and 10. We are looking to go to some of the job fairs in march to see whats involved. Perth has 3 large hospitals and lots of others in the less populated areas. Knowing where to start the process seems to be the biggest step.

Hi Draper 70

you are in a very similar situation to us

We are both (well by the time we (hopefully) get our visa's) 40 My wife Annabelle is a
Paediatric nurse and we are going out on her skills and I work in Telecoms...

We have two children 13 and 12 (again by the time we hopefully get our visa's)

Child care is one of our big concerns... I do have familey in Perth but dont want to land and assume they are going to be up for stroppy teen sitting plus not sure how close we will be from them :0)

BUT we are hoping that the "new life style" will include far more outside familey fun time and so child care in the everning wont be such an issue but holiday and after school care ?? Like you my wife is hoping to go part time or do some sort of job share but we are a good year plus out from visa's so will have to look far more seriously closer to the time... but been told child care is expensive in auz we know our kids are older but they will need support to help them settle.

Sorry waffling now and going off track...

We are looking towards the north of Perth Quinns Rock and around there but time will tell as we are looking for areas with Hospital not miles away

Hi,
I'm a nurse and have been offered a job at 'sir charles gardiner' hospital. Have had alot of interest from hospitals. Am getting confused. I am hoping to get sponsored so want to make the right decision.
Had interest from Sir john of God, freemantle, hollywood & royal perth!
Can anyone help?

Hi, just a cautionary note , my wife recently had an interview for a rgn in perth with the st john of god hospital chain in perth.- held in manchester uk
They would sponsor her but we still had to pay the fees ourselves and on arrival in perth they would give her 700 dollars to cover expenses, however for the time you are on a sponsorship visa you are not covered for medical expenses which can be expensive.
We felt the best way was to go on a PR Visa and forsake the 700 dollars which in truth will not cover any of the expenses incurred. We are just in the process of starting now.

Hi, arrived in perth 5 weeks ago have been working in hollywood for 2 weeks-and have just gone and got job at royal perth, i wont go into details but i now know why the 457 visa gets nicknamed the slave visa.new employer very friendly and amenable as i have a small daughter. Also the royal perth wil help me apply for PR straight away-other places you have to work for them for 2 years first.
im working night shifts as ive found childcare doesnt open early enough for early shifts (usually 7am start) and as im by myself and friend sharing accom.has decided to leave to travel-in a week!I am advertising free room in return for babysitting those 4 nights while i work.
so its not easy juggling it all-but definatly worth the try-perth is a beautiful place and i love it here!
