Hi everyone,
Brilliant website, learned more here than anywhere else so far!!! So, thanks everyone for contributing.

I'm a Child protection Social Worker in the UK (also approved mental health social worker) looking to emmigrate to WA ASAP and escape the UK mad house.

Has anyone been through the Social work process before, as in the assessment process and the transfer of qualifications to Aussie standards. I qualified 8 years ago in the days before the BA social work degree and wonder if my diploma in social work will be recognised?

Any thoughts/ advice greatly appreciated thank you

Liz

Hi ladies

This site might help with some info if you haven't already seen it. http://www.aasw.asn.au There's also a link on there for 'country assessment guidelines' but I'm not certain how upto date it is. You know how they keep changing the rules. You could try emailing them. Details are all on there.

Hi,

Thanks Jane, Definately keep in touch, let us know how you get on with your application.

We've just started the qualification process of having my qualifications checked to see if the comply with the AASW qualifications, it $600 well spent if I can transfer across, so i'll let you know how it gets on.

Thanks for the link Leigh too

How far on with the application are you?

Hi Liz

I think like you i'm at the being stages of the process. All our initial documentation is in and my partner now needs to be assessed by Vetesses (He's an electrician). I have just sent an email to the internet address Leigh gave us asking for further information i.e are my qualifications recognised and do i need to undertake any further training once i'm over there. So that will be interesting to here what they have to say.

Are you the main applicant Liz? Have you been to Perth before?

My cousin was over in Jan, he lives in Perth so quizzed him about a lot of things which put my partner at ease. He seems to think getting work wouldn't be a problem for either of us which is nice to know. Do you have an area in mind?

Anyway thats all for now. catch up again soon.
Yours
Jane :)
