Hi, Me and my Husband and our 3 children will be moving to Perth in August 08. I have been watching a program in the UK called Wanted down under. It showed that there are groups that hold get togethers for us the meet other people that have also moved to OZ. Does anyone know where I find information about these groups. I am scared to death as we wont know anyone. We are looking to move north of the River at Hillarys or Ellensbrook.

hi
im a hairdresser and my husband is a builder from morecambe I'm at the stage of getting my skilled assessed. I have 2 kids 1 girl 7 and 1 boy 5. We are hoping to be in perth by dec 2009. i was wondering how long the whole process took for you? Have you applied for visa based on your hairdressing skills? Was it easy or is there anything i should be wary of? What made you choose Perth? Have you already got a job linned up?
I'm a mobile hairdresser at the moment But i am worried about setting up other there. Can i ask what area you have choosen and why? My husband and i want to be close to the beach , school shops ext... Anywhere nice for the kids but affordable for us as we will pretty much be starting from scratch again. Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi Karine,
I Started my application to OZ in May 07 after we went for a visit. We had an agency to help us, as there are lots of things that you need to fill in etc. If you want the agency's contact details I will forward them onto you. They have made it so easy for us to do. Our Visa arrived in Feb 08. I went for the Skilled Subclass 136 Visa. This is the best for you as a Hairdresser. It is for 5 years but after 2 years you can apply to stay for good. This Visa also allows you to Work for yourself or for a Salon. If you decide that you want a change you can also change your Job to do what you want to do.
We are looking at the North of Perth around Ellensbrook and Joondalup as these I have been told are the new and upcoming areas.
You can join a Hairdressing agency and they have a list of Salons that are looking for Stylist. Or do what I am going to do which is Mobile hairdressing until I feel my feet. I then plan on opening my own salon. How long have you been mobile hairdressing, i am asking this because you need to have books to show for I think it was 3 years. If you dont have books going back that long you may need to do what I did and go working ( Rent a Chair ) in a salon for 12 months. you can be doing your Visa application at the same time.

hi
i've only got books starting from feb this year. therefore by what you are saying i'm pretty stuck. Can i not carry on as i am ( mobile hairdressing) and wait till i have more years of work experience?. As it stand I qualified for 105 points isn't that enough? I am very worried now!!! But thanks for letting me know because " emmigrating expert" who we are using to guide us through the whole process didn't tell me that!! However they did say that i didn't score any points on work experience. Can i asked how many points you scored before you you went and hired a chair.? thanks Karine

Hi Karine,

I cant remember how many I score before i hired a chair, but when I spoke to the
emigration experts they asked what I had worked in hairdressing over the last few years. Because of my Children I didnt work over 20hrs aweek in hairdressing, so it didnt count. They said I needed 12 months working in a salon working over 20 hours a week.
I would not worry, if you are not going till nxt year, you have the option to look at the different visa's. I would recommend that you speak to someone and ask them for their advice. I had help from this Company in Australia and they told us what and how we had to go about doing it. I will tell you its not cheap, but its def worth it. As for your 105 points, if you are going to go using ur skills you need to check that you will still have enough points. Keep positive... Try phoning Australia House and asking them.

hi
Just wanted to let you know that i have been in touch with emmigrating expert and they confirm what you had said. Thank you so much for letting me know as i would have thought that we were ok as we were. Anyway now i need 12 months worth of books with at least 20 hrs work per week. So far i only have 2 months so another 10 months to go!!! In the mean time should we get our medicals/police checks done??

Hi Karine,

No, dont get any of your checks done, they only last 12 months, you need to leave them to the very last thing you do. Once you have filled all your documents then you will be asked to do your medical, the Police Checks are the last thing you do. Even though you have 10 months to go start filling some of your documents in now, as they take time, then at least when your 10months is up you can log all your documents straight away. You need the forms, 26, 47, 80, 160, 886, 1190. Have look at these documents online so you get an idea. Ouestion 7 on the TRA took me 14 pages to do.
Good luck... If you want any more advice, send me a private mail and I will reply. I have some stuff that will help you fill in your details.
