Has anyone transfered their private pension? If so can anyone recommend a company that can advise us. So many companies on the net but just don't know who to trust, and they all seem to want money sent before we have met anyone! We realise if we get this wrong then we could loose lots of money. We are going in May, so really need to get this sorted ASAP.

Generally the Super fund (pension) you join over here will deal with all the transfers from UK private pensions. It does take a while and you may need to push and shove to get it done, but the Super funds do seem geared up to dealing with us Poms!

Being an UK migrant myself emigrating from Manchester to Perth 6 years ago, I now work for a firm of Chartered Accountants in Perth as a UK Taxation and Pension Administrator and have dealt with many migrants’ pension transfers from the UK to Australia. The company are experts in UK and Australian pension, superannuation and tax matters. We can advise you on both UK and Australian pension and tax issues before and after you migrate. If the transfer of your UK pension fund is completed within 6 months of the date on which you became tax resident in Australia, the growth component will be exempt from tax. If you require any further questions then please do not hesitate to contact me. Colette at cpieniazek@uhyhn.com.au

Hi we are a firm of Chartered Accountants in Perth who have a section which deal with the transfer of pension from the UK to Asutralia. We are not linked to any particular superannuation fund here in Australia so you have free choice providing the fund meets the UK's ruling.
We offer to obtain the current transfer value on your behalf from your pension/s fund and then send you a full transfer report explaining the advantages and disadvantages of transferring. There is no charge for this. You can come to this Office and we will explain the procedure answer questions you may have regarding your UK pension fund and we will explain any tax issues involved.
If you want to ask more questions please email cpieniazek@uhyh.com.au
