Hi Paul
We have (hopefully) got our practical assessment in July - waiting to hear for a date for the carpentry practical, from Vetassess.
If all goes well with that, we will also be applying for state sponsorship for WA. How long did it take for your sponsorship to come through once you had submitted your form?
Good luck with the rest of your application

Hi Denise
Glad to hear things are all moving for you
I was so surprised about the time it took for the state sponsorship to come back to me.
It took 15 days from when I sent the e form to getting a letter on my door mat.
I hope the visa app is just as fast, if you get out there soon, your other half can make things for me to paint......sorted.
Good luck
Paul

Hi Dean
I'm no expert on this, as you say it is quite confusing.
I tried to get sponsorship from companies but did not suceed so I have gone for the 176 visa with State sponsorship which will give me access to medicare, be able to work anywhere in WA and I can work for someone or for myself.
As I have worked for myself for the last 20 years, this was my best option.
I hope that is some help

Hi Paul
Gosh that was a really fast response! :D
Do they tell you what area's within WA that you can live in or is it the whole of WA? It's just I remember on the form it ask the region/area which you intend to live in -I have put Perth Metro because I guess I figured this is where the most work would be for Eammon - but not sure if they hold you to it ?

Hi Paul
Thanks for reply. Did you have to obtain a positive skills assesment for your state sponsored visa?

On the form they ask for 3 regions, at the time I wanted Perth metro, but it is not on there. I picked my 3 regions hoping that Perth metro was included anyway, but it wasn't. So contacted the WA agent that sent my positive state sponsorship letter to me from the SBDC ( small buisness development corporation ) and she said that once you are granted the 176 visa you can work anywhere in WA, even Perth metro. The regions are for if you are applying for the regional visa, and you have to work within that region
I hope that is useful

Hi Paul
Thanks - that's good news...
It's really hard to pick an area from this side of the world!!!! I think we'll head for Perth Metro (if we're lucky enough that they want us!) when I have been looking at house prices, etc, they do seem that little bit more expensive, but have narrowed it down to a few suburbs - however I am a little bit unsure as to which suburbs actually fall in to the Metro area - I can't find a map anywhere that lists this info. If you have any idea's they'd be gladly welcome.

Hi Denise
I don't know if you have found the following site but I have used it for the suburbs and some comments on the areas.
It is www.aussiemove.com (http://www.aussiemove.com) and head to the Perth link, gives housing average prices etc
