Hello

We are due to arrive in Perth this October 08 and will be bringing our Pet dog Buster. Does anyone have a pet shipping company they can recommend?
he is only 1 and has never been left for longer than 4 hours , I am very concerned about him both on the flight and in quarantine. Is it the norm to have them sedated to help them on the journey?
Any information will be greatly appreciated

Diane

Hi we brought our cat whose quite an old lady and she survived both the journey and quarentine. I keep getting her age mixed up but she's 17 or 18!.

We used a company called pets on the move, who did all the paper work for us which was great, picked her up at our house and took her to the airport.

Byford quarentine station isn't terribly big and gets booked up pretty quickly. When we enquired initially the first available date was 4 months later - so I'd suggest you book as soon as you can. You can visit your pet at the quarentine station (and I think take them for a walk in the grounds or play with them). The staff were great and our cat was very well cared for.

Hi Ali

Thank you for the info I don't have a date yet and the online info about quarantine said they don't take booking till the fights are booked.

the company we used enquired about dates for us and told us when the first available dates were - we enquired in the august and booked for the January. The company, booked all the flights etc., Our cat probably had more leg room than we did!!. The lady who collected Becky was great, realised that I was going to have a bit of a cry (which I did), but I didn't need to worry, as she hadn't lost any weight and was really fit and healthy when she came out.

we used Airpets near Heathrow. As i worked at the airport i visited them a couple of times and they seemed very professional. I also visited another company which were local to where i lived but their office seemed totally disorganised, paperwork everywhere. Yes they were definately animal lovers but as my dog would only be with them for a night, i was more concerned about them getting the paperwork right.
At least in October it shouldn't be too hot at Byford quarantine, our dog arrived in January and it was extremely hot for her.
I'm pretty sure they do not sedate dogs for the journey, incase they suffer an allergic reaction.
I was extremely worried about our dog making the journey but she was totally fine.
As Ali has already said, it does get booked up quick!

The costs were £1500 Airpets $762 for quarantine and £145 for vet bills (injections)
Think that covered it all.
Where abouts in the North East are you from?

Sorry I meant to ask
Was it a dog that you shipped?
How was he/she when you picked them up from quarentine ?

my wife is from Gateshead originally. We lived in Low Fell before moving down to Berkshire prior to moving out here.
We shipped our dog Cassie over. I was concerned due to her being a very slender dog and feared she would lose too much weight, but had nothing to worry about. They monitor the dogs weight and said she's lost a little on the phone so upped her food. So i was worried what she'd look like when we visted her, but she looked very healthy. The day we picked her up i shall never forget, she bounded aroung the car park ecstatic. Cassie was clingy for a couple of days after that but soon back to normal.
Yes it was expensive but i'm certainly glad we did it. I know for a fact my daughter would have not settled if we didn't.
