My husband and I finally have had the go ahead from immigration. We have been waiting just over a year and think over last few weeks thought that it was not going to happen. Now that it has were unsure if were making the right decision. My husband is joining the police out in WA in November, and im going to try and find part time work. any words of reassurance greatfully recieved. Im concerned he will be at work immeidately and i will be lonely at home.(booo!!!) Anyone that has recently moved please let me know if you feel you have made the right decision.

Hi Jo... I remember the feeling so well when we got our visa ... the excitment and then thinking "oh bl***y hell this is it" .... I think when you're waiting, it doesn't seem that real, you don't want to get your hopes up etc.

You'll probably find (as I did) that the last few weeks are very bitter sweet, I was in tears practically every day for 2 weeks saying goodbyes, yet I was really excited as well. My hubby started work 2 week after we landed and I started work after 4 weeks, and the kids in school, this helped us get a normal routine and I'm sure helped us settle quickly as we weren't in holiday mode.

I'd say everything you're feeling is normal ..... what about arriving a few weeks before hubby starts work and then you can have some time together before he starts work.

Good luck

Im definetly going to be in tears, but I am looking forward it. We have decided that we will arrive a few weeks earlier before my husband starts work. We are going to stay in a hotel for couple of weeks until we find place to stay. Did you guys rent a holiday home before you went out or organise it once out in Perth.

We managed to secure a 12 week furnished rental for when we arrived. It wasn't cheap at $625 per week (he reduced this 'cos we booked for 3 months), but it included all electricity, etc., ... so no bills other than for food and we knew we then had a base and some time to find something else.

No doubt, when you're ready to leave ... kleenex with have their best couple of weeks sales lol. My advice is ... even though you'll be sad and happy, try to enjoy it and remember it's the start of your BIG ADVENTURE

It is a massive step to move here but I think that if you dont make the move once you have been given the opportunity you would probably regret that too in the end. It is not easy but I think most people settle well once they get used to the place... it is not England & things just arent the same.

We have had a couple of police officers come stay with us & they seemed to settle well. I guess although the guys go to work quickly it also means that they get to meet a lot of people through work. The key to settling in is to get into a "real life" as soon as you can. Work leads to social invitations so it is good if both of you could work (even if it had to be part time for you) because getting out there is how you meet new friends.

Good luck with the move... even if you decided it was not the place for you it is a good experience to see a different side of life.
