Hi,

We've had fantastic news today, our 457 visa's have been granted, and we are provisionally looking to fly out 2nd September, can't wait!!

We are looking at booking with Singapore Airlines, as everyone rates them highly and the price is competitive, the only problem is they only allow 20kg on the 457 visa. Can anyone recommend other airlines, or suggest a way round this problem?

See you on the 3rd,

Rob

Hi Rob
We flew Emirates and were allowed 40kg each, although we were on 136 skilled migrant visa, maybe try calling and asking Emirates?

Call the airlines, we too got 40kg with singapore, but were told this was because it was a 136 PR Visa, the 457 is classed as a temporary visa. I've heard of people just turning up with the extra baggage and taking the chance ... but it would be an expensive mistake if they wouldn't allow it.

Rob

we booked our flights with Emirates for 19th September getting 20kgs each, however we contacted Emirates direct who informed that we could get Sky Cargo on the flight at a cost of £170 for an extra 40Kgs.
I'm not sure its worth risking just turning up as i think it costs around £10 per extra kilo - definitely recommend ringing the airline.

Liz,

Thanks for the tip off, I've just spoken to Singapore, and they will also airfreight it they are more expensive £160 for a 20kg suitcase, but it's better than paying the excess, or waiting 6 weeks to come via sea.

Good luck with your trip on the 19th!!

Hi Rob, I have also received my 457 visa and wanted to get my head around the 20kg limitation too. If you get any good replies could you pass 'em my way too? Thanks.
