      Schools in Secret Harbour

We have three kids aged 7, 4 and 1. Presumably only our eldest will start school when we arrive later this year? Can anyone comment on the schools in Secret Harbour, how many primary schools are there? Also, if we live in Secret Harbour, do we have to use that particular school - just wondering if it goes on catchment areas.

They are pretty strict on the catchment areas - however that doesn`t mean you wouldn`t get in to a different school, you`d have to request an out of area placement and the school would then look at your reasons decide if they have the room.

Your kids will go to S harbour primary/junior -like mine.
You have to enrol when you get here -our wait to get in was 2 weeks last July.

Seems Ok, though there are private options too.

      Hi

There are two primary schools in Secret Harbour
      Secret Harbour Primary
      Comet Bay Primary

Depending where you live in Secret Harbour the children would go to one of the local schools & as far as I know both schools are popular & OK

      http://www.cometbayps.det.wa.edu.au/

Secret Harbour is a nice place with good local amenities

my sister emigrated last march; she teaches in Secret Harbour Primary and absolutely LOVES it. she says she's allowed to teach rather than assess, assess, and test. SH is a new school; the original one is Comet Bay primary. She can't get over walking the kids to the beach for games like volleyball and cricket, she's just spent two weeks sat by an outdoor pool watching her class going through training and assessments for swimming; they don't do an hour a week for a year, they blitz it in one go.

That's good. When you have kids, well for us anyway, its something that is definitely at the top of our list when it comes to choosing which area to live, getting the right school first!

      Hi Yorkshire Puds!

How are you? I have 3 kids at Comet Bay Primary which is actually the newer school of the two. Secret Harbour Primary started in 1997 (in the shopping centre!!) and Comet Bay is into it's third year. Comet Bay has grown really quickly and gone from 400 students in 2007 to almost 800 now. My kids have attended both schools and whilst I was happy at the time with Secret Harbour Primary, for me as a parent, Comet Bay has the edge. That has mostly to do with the good communication from the school since day 1 and a really good Principal, However, I think the kids would've been happy and done equally well at either school. So wherever you settle in SH I think you will be fine.

Good luck with your move over!

      Best wishes.

      Thanks

Secret harbour - What's it like..??

      Hi all

Just registered on this site, hence I'm replying to this post as I lack the talent to create a new post (heh, atleast i admit it)..

Hoping to move over to Perth in a couple of months with my company - looking positive. I like the look of a few properties in the Secret harbour area and wondered if anyone could offer a bit of advice..

Great feedback already on schools, although if anyone knows how much the private ones cost that would be useful (not sure if they are any better than state schools..??)

How does Secret Harbour compare to other Perth Suburbs (have wife and 3 young boys).

Also, is it commutable into Perth each day.? how far / long would it take and is it a case of driving or do they have good public transport links..??

      Thanks for any help here...
