We feel that there has to be more opportunities for our children ans this is the key factor in us moving to Oz.. good luck

removed the email address .... in the interests of internet safety (particularly for younger ones) you don't want unsolicited emails being sent.

      Hi Sharon,

I finished Uni last year, I did geology, and am moving out to Perth next month. While I was looking for jobs out there I came across hundreds of positions for mechanical engineers working out with all the mining companies if he's interested in that, maybe after completing a degree or spending a few years as an apprentice. Also, the wage for a graduate mechanical engineer out there starts at about $70,000! If that doesn't convince him things are better out there, I don't know what will lol.

I hope everything works out for you, I have a friend from uni who is already out there working for a big mining company, and he absolutely loves it!

      Good luck with everything!

      John.

      Hi Sharon

We have a 17 year old daughter who we have now managed to secure a place for on a Combo course specifically for those wanting a career within Education, this is at Rockingham Challenger Institute, it was a bit of a struggle to find out exactly where she sits in the education system here as she had only completed 1 year at Sixth Form College in the UK, so only had AS Levels. We started to wish we had not moved her over until completing her A Levels, but it was a case of either now or never!

Looking around though and speaking to staff in various education establishments the opportunties for kids over here is far more varied and available, your son will be fine. And you only need to pick up "The Weekend West" on a Saturday to catch a glimpse of the number of jobs that are on offer.

Sophie can't wait to start her course in February, it's a combined course, so she completes so many units of the course at TAFE and then the rest at Murdoch University, if she passes this course it then gives her an automatic place at University for next year.

      Good luck with convincing him!
      Michelle

Hi Michelle, Thanks for that info, I think he is more or less convinced about the job situation now, he has had some manual experience also with a friend of the family who works at a global engineering co and George seems pretty confident about getting a job he wants to do over there, rather something in UK he hates and has no interest in. He has said he will look into it when we get there and if he needs to go back to college he will do. Thanks again, Sharon
