Thanks so much for your information....it's a big relief to hear something that's up-to-date.
How are you enjoying Secret Harbour? We were over in August and it looks amazing...very family orientated, but it would be good to get some feedback on that too if you don't mind sparing some more time.
Thx so much for your help!

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST !!!

      Hi Fionn,

We arrived in Perth 14th Sept, not knowing anything about Perth Suberbs ! We were due to go to Melbourne but at the last minute my OH employer asked if we would like to go to Perth instead.....I'm so glad we said yes !!!

We were given 4 wks accomodation in Applecross not far from CBD, we spent the whole 4 wks looking at various suberbs.
Secret Harbour was one of the first that we came accross, but we decided to check out as many as we could (both sides of the river). We saw some really lovely houses in lovely suberbs but we always ended up back in Secret Harbour !!
We love it here, people are really friendly, 2 min drive to the beach....and the weather is GREAT...even in the low temps, our UK summer temps...lol
My OH found out that an old school friend was also moving to Perth but he was heading to north of the river, he visited us on his 2 day in OZ and changed his mind and they have now moved along the road from us !

My OH works in Booragoon fairly close to CBD and it takes him about 40mins which is not too bad and the trains takes about 30mins to Perth...so ive been told, not tried it myself yet !

As I said my son loves Comet Bay College, he had some real problems in the UK which made hime very nervous obout starting and also he didn't really seam to be learning anything back in the UK but Comet Bay College he is actually understanding things and he loves going to school...well after the initial grumpy teenager wake up in the morning lol !!

If anyone has any questions I will try and answer them and help in anyway I can...I know how stressfull it is

      Lynne xx

      Hi Lynne,
Thank you sooooooo much for all your help! It's so great to hear all your views.

My hubby and I were in perth in August, trying to get an idea of where we wanted to live when we arrived there. We found Secret Harbour on the day we were leaving (Our flight was at 10pm), so we really only had time to look at 'Woolies' and the beach! We really loved it though!....and yes, the people were just lovely!

Thanks for the offer to ask more questions....I think I'll probably be taking you up on that offer in the not too distant future!!

Lynne you must try the train, its brill. On weekends and school holidays its just $9.00 for a family ticket and you can travel where you want and it inludes all the buses and ferries too. Just watch out for the view as you cross Mount Henry Bridge,17 months on and it still takes my breath away

      Comet bay college

Just wanted to find out if there are any more recommendations for Comet Bay College??

This is a school I am looking at and would be interested to know if anyone can give an update?

Still not decided on whether we are definitely coming to Perth yet as Oh has given me orders to do research before he starts to make decisions. Secret harbour looks more affordable to live in than some of the suburbs nearer the city, it also looks a family friendly area near the beach which would definitely be a plus.

Does anyone know the aprox costings per term?

      Really would appreciate your input!!!!

Comet Bay is a state school so any fees due would be just general contributions (e.g my daughters state school fees this year (Yr12) are about $300 - can`t remember exact amount) - then you have to pay for text books (which was another $300 this year for us)and uniform on top. State school contribution fees cover stuff like use school bus, photocopying, printing and all depend on what courses they take. Having said that there are some visa`s where they have full fee paying status such as certain temporary or bridging visa`s.
My mate sends her kid to private school and she laughed when I moaned about the cost of the texts books - hers cost $700 and then she has private school fees on top plus uniform.

Good to hear all the good things about Secret Harbour and Comet Bay, can't wait to get out and experience it for myself. Does anyone know of any new housing estates being built around or near Secret Bay?

Hi, Is there plenty of activities in and around the Secret Harbour area for Teenagers, our son will be 15 when we arrive and we wondered if staying closer to the CBD would provide him with more activities?

Hi, I know this thread is quite old now but we are hopefully moving to WA in March 2013 and have been looking at secret harbour. My children will be 3 & 5 so a little way off the high school yet but are looking at the primary. I just wondered if any of you can tell me what secret harbour is like for families / children, is it far to the nearest town or activities like cinema, shops, and things to do etc. And of cause any more info on the schools, primary and secondry would be great.

      Thanks

Not wanting to put a downer on things but sure you will appreciate some negative feedback too as I would have done the same! My 13 year old son has had mild bullying issues at Comet Bay but a member of staff there was incredibly supportive and helped him through the worst of it, that seems to have calmed down now. However he comes home from school most days saying he has not learnt anything which for Matt to say that is pretty serious. He is not the most academic kind and I think the average kids seems to get a bit left behind, schooling is very different here to the UK, I came over here very naively thinking because we don't have the language barrier it would be just the same and it isn't - there is something to be said for the UK education system! We are currently looking at other possibilities for him including fee paying schools. Every child is different though so your experience may be totally different.
