      Uk GCSE or Australian exams

      G.C.S.E or australian equilivent

hi guys, any help on this would be appreiated.
we have a dilema, our daughter is in uk year 9 and starts her options/GCSE's in September.
at present we are waiting for my skilled vetasses exam but are un sure if (all being well regarding visa) if we move to Perth this time next year or wait for her to complete her uk GCSE's and then move out.
myself and my wife want to move but as our daughter is doing extremely well in maths and science we don't want the move to have any effect on our daughters future( qualification wise)
what are the austrailian equilivent and are they reconised as well worldwide as the uk ones

      thank you for any help

Her GCSE's won't count for anything here. Years 11 and 12 are the most important as these form the basis of studying for your WACE certificate.

You chose your options during year 10.

Personally if I had a choice then i'd try to get here certainly for the start of year 11

would second that - year 11 and 12 are the important ones here, and really only year 12 when they do their exams. GCSE count for nothing. If she wants to go to UNi here then doing the year 12 exams here will be the best. Uni's will consider A Levels for university entrance but not GCSE. They pick their subjects in year 10 and start the teaching programme at the beginning of Year 11. My child missed the whole of Year 10 and it didn;t matter - he managed to pick up the Year 11 prog easily.

Hi there, hope you don't mind me butting in here!! I have a 14 (soon to be 15) year old daughter who started her GCSEs in September last year. We could possibly move to Australia at the end of this year, so she would be part way through year 11 (English system). Would it be better for her to come over and start her year 11 in Perth then, if GCSEs aren't necessarily recognised there? The point is, we were going to defer mine and my daughter's moving to Australia until she had finished her GCSEs, but if the above points were read right by me, we should look at moving her over there Jan next year at the start of her year 11? Any advice gratefully received as we are at a crucial point of deciding what visa to go for and this is a very important part of our planning process.

Personally, Shelley (and it is only a personal opinion) If there is a realistic opportunity for you to be here at the start of year 11 then I would take it, it also gives her 2 years to get settled into the systme before Uni.

As has already been mentioned, GCSE's don't really count for anything in Australia.

The table below is from the Country Education Profile (CEP) for The UK and it shows the assessment guidelines for UK secondary school qualifications. GCSE's don't even get a mention, the lowest qualification for conversion/assesment purposes are AS levels.

If the plan is to study at an Oz University then come for the start of Year 11 - I wouldn't hang on for GCSE's.
