The surname originates from Patricks grandfather and is Lithuanian! We haves a Daughter called Lydia and we would love to meet up with a British family who have made a move to oz. we are arriving in Perth for a short visit. I was in Perth for 3 months working, 10 years ago now, at the time I was on a holiday working visa and worked all over Australia. I totally fell in love with the place and never wanted to leave! I returned home and met my fab husband and we got married then Lydia came along. There is not a day goes by I don't think about living in oz, craving the outdoor lifestyle for our family. Patrick loves wildlife, snorkelling, cycling, skiing (although skiing isn't much of an option in oz)and rugby league. For the past 9 years I have been asking my husband to consider moving to Australia. I know he would love it, but he has doubts, that he wouldn't get the same job and money he has in the Uk. He thinks he wouldn't get the opportunities, because we are British and not Australian! From my experience in Australia everyone I met was very friendly, happy and welcoming people. I have tried to explain the lifestyle we could have, bit he just says it wouldn't be a holiday and would have to work probably harder!! Baring in mind in the Uk, he leaves for work at 6.30 and works 7am until 6pm arriving home at 6.30 - 7 at night, and then works from home in the evenings doing until10pm. Also at weekends he works every Saturday and most Sundays! So as you can see he is a hard worker but doesn't have much of a life.. He works very hard and is passionate for his job. He wants the best for us and earns the money. But no life at all. It's getting to a point where he is looking old before his time due to the amount of pressure he puts on himself. Believe it or not he loves to relax and enjoy the outdoors, but I don't see that person very much at all. I'm hoping Australia will show him how a life really can be and there are better job opportunities and everyday lifestyle to live. I know Patrick doesn't think it's possible. Patrick has never lived or worked out of Yorkshire. So he can't see it. Where as I have experienced and seen that it is possible. I think meeting some ex pats living Australia, would help him see how possible it is. We would like to see how the locals live. Please could anyone help our very short stay be as interesting a real as possible. If you would like to meet our family or suggest nice places to visit that locals go to for a family day out, eg parks within the local communities, schools and local community centres, also houses to buy or rent, and jobs - local engineering companies you may of etc and nice areas to live in, or any suggestions to make us feel that a move could be possible that would be fab. Patrick is Design Engineer and works within the manufacturing and recycling industry. Adventure World - my son and his friends all have season passes. If you're not ready to move yet, I'd just look at suburbs you like the look of and not bother in worrying about the rental/buying market. Lots of things change - in the time we were waiting for our visa several years ago we went from being able to buy something out right to having a mortgage as the price of houses had risen. Why not stay tuned on here and see if any meetups happen around the time of your arrival, so you could possibly go and meet some people already living here, get their views and opinions on things in a relaxed environment. dxboz Posted March 13, 2014 Report Share Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Catch the train to Fremantle and have a look around there (I would go Friday, Saturday or Sunday as the Fremantle markets are on and great atmosphere with buskers etc.) then jump on the CAT (free bus) and go to South Beach - about 5 minutes away from Fremantle for a relaxing afternoon. Great park next to the beach with bbqs and play equipment for children. Also nice little place for lunch there - The Pickled Fig it's right next to the beach - nice outdoor area - great food - not overly expensive - South Beach is beautiful (a little slice of heaven on earth) and Freo is great - I guarantee your husband will be impressed! It is a stressful process (and expensive) and the risk is that they arrive and the OP loves it and the husband doesnt and wants to return. We have all seen how that can work out!!! Agree with you VS and I answered another thread along these lines earlier today - think it was on PIO. Everyone in the family unit needs to be 100% committed otherwise it can go totally pearshaped.
