I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere you can buy some proper English bacon in Perth? None of this horrible cured/plasticky/slimy stuff that they seem to pass off as bacon over here!
Is the one thing I miss about home!

+1 Please, please tell me if you find some! Sunday morning bacon sandwiches with red sauce underneath the bacon, brown sauce on top, were a bit of a ritual. But the shortcut bacon here is just like eating a wetsuit.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions, without remembering my reasons for them...
We hate it too!
Coles sells raw bacon which is not too bad. You need to look for it in the raw meat fridges, they also do black pudding if you're that way inclined.
It's called Irish bacon I think.
I was going to say that we had some from Coles cant remember what it was called but it was the "english" style, I like the bacon here though especially done on the barbie![]()
Catherine, Matt and Travis (10) just moved into our newly built house in Lakelands North Mandurah, and loving it.
I was over at the beginning of this month and got some from IGA at the meat counter and thought it was nice
I must have been here too long as I think the bacon is OK .... agree with you give me a break, brunch on the barbie is fab
Lord make my words sweet and reasonable. For some day I may have to eat them
I think the butchers is your best bet. There is one in the Southlands shopping centre in Willetton that does good bacon and Frank's Speciality meats on Wray Avenue in Freo does just about anything. I asked him if he could cut me some belly strips and was keen to get whatever I wanted. There's another great butchers on South Street at the top of the hill in Hilton.
I think if you ask any butcher a good one will cut whatever you want, just ask for thinly sliced belly slices if you want streaky or thinly sliced loin if you want back bacon.
we were on vacation in perth and further north to coral bay last sept. lots of greasy cafs selling great bacon butts. plus some cracking pork pies, especially at the butchers in a mall in hidden harbor.
Yeah bacon and pork pies here are a issue for us to, The bacons very rubbery and wet? The pork pies are 'ok' but not a patch on UK pies.
Just manned up and getting on with it, we found the best way to cook the local bacon is to BBQ it also, strange really but it does help get rid of the 'wet suit' feel to it.
