      Insulin pump

      Hi,

My wife and I live in France, and we will move to Perth on January with 457 visas.
I have a type 1 diabetes and I rent an insulin pump to treat it.
In France, 100% of the treatment costs are paid by the "national" healthcare system (= Medicare in Australia?).
How does it work in Australia?
How much will I have to pay?
I will also have a private medical insurance through HBA.

Thanks in advance for your answers

      Cheers

      Franck

      Hi Franck

I too have Type 1 Diabetes, but take insulin by injection, so haven't got any answers for you, sorry. I would like to ask you a question though, if that is ok. I am currently applying for my visa. Has your visa been granted yet and did you have any problems with having diabetes as a medical condition? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. I am just worried that I will be turned down for a visa purely due to my medical condition. Many thanks, Michelle

      Hi,

I have just got my 457 visa, and I stipulated that I am diabetic, so you should have no problem.
I hope we find another diabetic on this forum who could tell us how does it work in terms of costs once we are in Perth.

      Best regards

      Franck

I know Franck - I have looked at prescription prices, but still not sure what the costs would be with regards to consultations etc!!! I am moving to Baldivis in January so will be registering with a GP then, who will hopefully be able to shed some light on the subject!!! Thanks for your reply. It is a relief that you have been granted your visa. I had a horrible thought last weekend that maybe my visa would be declined due to my medical condition - hopefully that will not be the case! Take care, Michelle x
Arrived in Baldivis on Friday 6th January 2012!!!! What a great start to the New Year...

This organisation should be able to help with questions http://www.diabeteswa.com.au/

My friend is here on a PR visa and he has diabetes and is controlled. I don't know how much insulin costs, found a link that says $34.20. Private medical cover doesn't cover the cost of prescriptions.
