Question Help pls got 11 and 8 year olds who are gun mad - can you bring toys/get them in Oz

Hi all hoping to come out from Scotland but my 2 sons are gutted as we saw something which looked like no toy guns get through customs - can anyone tell me if you get toy guns out there or can ship them in? (They would specifically prefer bringing their own out as rather atteched to them!!) They also like BB guns and airsoft and enjoy target practice here. Any advice please!! Thanks Clare

I would say that as long as they are declared as toy - plastic guns they will probably get inspected but let through. If they don't you can buy them here.

The following is taken from this page:
      http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4443.asp#items

What do I have to declare?

      Firearms, weapons and ammunition
You must declare all firearms, weapons and ammunition including real and replica firearms and BB air guns that discharge a pellet by means of compressed gas, commonly purchased as "toy" guns. Other weapons such as paintball markers, blowpipes, all knives, nunchukas, slingshots, crossbows, electric shock devices and knuckle dusters must also be declared. Some of these items may require a permit, police authorisation and safety testing before importation.
Lord make my words sweet and reasonable. For some day I may have to eat them

Definately NO BB guns, they are not allowed into Australia, they are popular with Aussies bringing them in from Bali, they will get confiscated.

AFAIK no BB's or Airsoft. If you ship them and declare (as you will have to), they will likely inspect and confiscate. Some Airsoft replica's are so like the real thing it's best you leave anything like that behind. Remember all police officers here are armed and if your kids are seen with anything even remotely like a firearm they may get into a very serious situation.

Thanks to all for info, I have emailed the Police in WA to be clear too and it appears maybe my sons can be bought off by joining a shooting club when we come over!! (oh and the fact the polica are armed just makes australia all the more attractive funny enough!!), I appreciate all replies, thanks again Clare
