  1. Yes we have 2 little ones and will be getting a PR visa. Have looked on gov website and it says we could get about $550 a fortnight which would be a great help!
  2. Thanks for the advice :-) hopefully a liar mechanic will be able to tell me about wages at some point. If they do only pay 50-60k, which by the sounds of things we wouldn't survive on, I just wonder how other mechanics deal with this as there must be some that have young families and therefore one person has to stay home and they live off one wage. Perhaps they live life the way travelchic does which actually sounds quite similar to our life at the mo!!
  3. Wow you are doing well with your budget, you give me hope that getting by on my wage in oz in General will be possible!
  4. Thanks for all the advice, from my research, other parts of oz seem to pay between 50k and 60k for mechanics but just can't seem to get any figures for WA, I may try and email some garages and see if they can give any wage figures. Just want to prepare my self! It seems with pr we should get about 500 per fortnight for child benefit and rent assist if the salary figures in perth are similar to south oz or Queensland which will be a great help but wasn't sure if my wages might be higher than that if in WA as from what I can gather things are just generally more expensive there. So if any light vehicle mechanics see this thread or you know of any please do let me know so I can budget, pm me if you would prefer!
  5. Thanks for replying Druid, fingers crossed il get to the higher end of the salaries you mention. Think the main thing is to find a reasonable rental for us, when we originally started looking into oz, WA was originally ruled out as most rentals seemed to be 600 a week but they seem slightly less now so hopefully we will get something within our budget when we get there. I think we may have to look into my wife getting some sort if part time job to help out
  6. Thanks very much! Are you able to recommend any other areas which might be less expensive. I don't mind not being really close to the beach, as long as it's drivable!
  7. Thanks for the friendly response, asked similar question a while ago when we were thinking of south oz and posted on the adelaide poms website and the posters were really negative about everything in general to the extent that someone private messages me and said they no longer posted the forum due to the constant negativity from people! So thank you for being friendly!! We are hoping to come out when fate allows- waiting for visa to get sorted and then have to sell the house and then we will be there!
  8. Just bumping this so it shows up when people log in!
  9. Hi, I am looking for Some opinions and advice about salary expectations and how much people need to get by. We are in the process of applying for perm residency in WA. We have friends who moved out years ago, he was a mechanic and she didn't work. They got by on his wage. He is retired now and so can't give me up to date salary figures for light vehicle mechanics in WA. Can find salarys for diesel mechanics but no info on job sites for light vehicle mechanics. Currently work at Jardene land rover in the south of the uk and will be bringing out about 60k. Can someone, especially any mechanics tell me what my salary bracket should be? Il be coming over with my wife and 2 kids. We are happy to live further out from the beach and city as long as it's a doable journey to the beach especially. We have visited friends in Kinross which we loved bit also thought about Ocean reef or joondalup. Will my job be enough for us to live off? We should be eligible for child and rent help but don't want to assume or overly rely on this! Any ideas of salaries and/or living on this wage would be great. We love it over there and will be emigrating to WA either way but would like to build up a realistic picture. Anyone who works as a mechanic, It would be great to hear how you find it or how you feel the wages are in terms of getting by, thanks Keith
