  1. Not sure which country you are there but when we left the UAE sold all our furniture. Unless is something very expensive and you really really want to keep. It's such a high turn over of expats coming to live there all the time and easy to sell. The amount you pay on shipping, insurance and storage might exceed the value of your items. It might be cheaper to buy new ones here. Also you never know what happens in the meantime, you might change your mind, get a better offer, move somewhere else... Just a thought!
  2. Thanks all. I was just worried she will start again with "this is a cat" "my book is red" "the cat is happy" ) I don't mind what it's call, either Reception, preschool, pre kindy, etc as long as she'll be in the next level she'd be if we were to stay in NZ
  3. Thanks all. Yes, we will get a car eventually for emergencies, weekends, crap weather (very hot!!) We did extremes, Sweden and UAE when a car is important due to weather Glad to hear Victoria Park is not a bad area, we'll see once we get there. Less than a month now...
  4. We arrive there on the 10th, going to live in Victoria Park.
  5. Hi all. We will be moving to Perth in January next month. Our daughter is 6 this week and she will complete her first year of school here in NZ. Here they start school next day after 5th birthday so she's already been through a full year. She already knows to read, write, spell and all the things children normally learn in their first school year. Now we have contacted the school in Perth for her to be enrolled for next year Jan 2017 and we were told she will start from zero as they didn't take into account she's already been going to school for one year. Is this normal in Australia, especially for children who already did one year in UK or NZ?
  6. Thank you all. We have already found a rental in Victoria Park. Not easy to decide on a certain area when you don't know the place very well. Hopefully Victoria Park is not too bad. Husband will be able to cycle or get a bus into Elizabeth Quay and primary school is walking distance from our rental (next to Raphael park) We will eventually get a car just for weekend trips, beach, kids activities etc.
  7. Hi all We are moving to Perth mid January next year and looking at rentals at the moment. As we are not there yet is difficult to get a feel of the place. After a bit of research I came across Victoria Park area as close to hubby's work and within our budget. We have a 6 year old so very important to us is a good school as well. I just can't seem to be able to find any information on Lathlain School, any reviews from parents or report/level of this school? I do like what I read about Victoria Park School but would like to keep Lathlain as an option as they are both in same area we'd like to move to. Thanks
  8. Hello all. Here we go again, off to our 6th country in 6 years! We will be arriving in Perth early Jan, moving from NZ Christchurch. We previously lived in the UK (still our base), Sweden, UAE, South Korea and NZ. My husband has already started his new job and myself and the kids will join him next month. His job will be at Elizabeth Quay and hoping to rent a house around that area (20-30 max on public transport). Have looked at Subiaco, Highgate, Floreat and Victoria Park. We have a daughter who'll finish her first school year here in NZ so finding a good school in those areas is very important too. What are your thoughts and experience on these areas, especially Victoria Park? (the one which is within our budget so far) We also have a 3 year old son. He goes to kindy here full time as I work and we get 20 free hours per week from government. I am not planning on going back to work for a while after we move to Au but we'd still want him to go to preschool at least few days a week. Is there anything that doesn't break the bank? We'd like to rely only on one car or maybe no car at all (if walking distance from school). Is it feasible? Cheap reliable public transport? Getting very excited now, tired of cold, rain, wind and quakes here in Chch
