might sound like a daft question (of which I'm sure I'll have many) but when do you pay the agent? i.e. upfront, on going or on visa completion??

Hi folks. We are looking at moving to perth on a PR visa, my wife is the main applicant. She has sat her IELTS test and had the results back, we now need to get her Qualifications assessed, and its at this point we've hit a bit off a brick wall. So far we've tried to do the visa process ourselves, trying to save a little extra cash in the process. Trouble is we aren't quite sure which job best suits her qualifications, this has also made us rethink as to wether to use a migration agent, will using an agent speed up the process and obviously knowing the ins and out should be easier. We have friends that migrated about 3 years ago and they had a bad experience with theirs, husband was main applicant and there was no way with his age and qualifications they would have got in, the agent never told them this and happily proceeded with the process taking the money on the way. So can we do it ourselves or is an agent a good idea? For there where do you find a decent one? Many thanks
