  2. Talking about hospitality venues does anyone know if the Moon and Sixpence along with the Boheme did close down.
  3. The finalists for WA's peak hospitality awards have been unveiled and one thing is for certain... it's going to be a long night for the lucky nominees. There were a record number of finalists for the 2017 AHA Hospitality Awards for Excellence across 42 categories. Mayfair Lane has made an impressive debut in West Perth this year. Australian Hotels Association chief executive Bradley Woods said this year's awards reflected the fast-changing pace of WA's hospitality sector. "There is tough competition in all award categories and all finalists are deserving of recognition," Mr Woods said. Super-versatile bistro pub Mayfair Lane in West Perth should be prominent on the night after re-opening this year and not missing a beat, while renovated suburban pub The Wembley overcame a pint furore to also feature as a finalist in several competitive categories. Petition's trio of slick venues at the State Buildings were also nominated across several categories. 2017 FINALISTS - A SNAPSHOT: Bar Presentation and Service Award Blanche Bar, Karratha Paddington Alehouse, Mount Hawthorn Petition Beer Corner at State Buildings, Perth Raffles Hotel, Applecross Rose Hotel, Bunbury The Breakwater, Hillarys The Boat at The Marina, Mindarie The Mechanics Institute, Northbridge The Queens Tavern, Highgate The Village Bar, Subiaco Whistling Kite, Secret Harbour Petition's stable of venues at the state buildings have fared well. like button

Sorry all. Unfortunately this software that we currently run on is outdated and no longer supported. The "like" button was an add on which became a security risk and caused problems on two out of four of the forums. To stop this happening here we took the decision to remove the like button to protect the forum. This then leads us to the decision of what software to use for the forums. The creators of VB (the current software) split up and half went off to design a new platform called Xen Foro also at this time everyone stopped writing code add ons for VB and moved over to Xen. Now we use a lot of add ons one of which was the like button so VB was no longer an option. We moved 2 of the smaller forums to Xen Foro and basically I couldn't stand it. Here is one currently running on Xen https://www.lifeinqueensland.com/ So the other major player in forum software is Invision Power Board which had all the ad ons, was mobile friendly and also was SSL secure. This is what Poms is on. Believe me I've put off doing the forum upgrade for probably 3-4 years it was only when the security risk became apparent it left us with no choice. It has stressed me non stop doing the change over because I don't like anyone to be unhappy and @Arwen if I could have left it the way it was believe me my life would have been a lot less stressful. However, I thought people's security protection needed to be our priority. As yet we haven't purchased the software for Perth so please have a look at the Xenforo platform that's running life in Queensland and let me know which you prefer https://www.lifeinqueensland.com/ Sorry for any inconvenience we have caused you all we just want to make sure everything is safe and secure.

    Perth Airport

Wow isn't it so modern. I admit I have only been in to the Virgin side but it's all so posh. It puts the rest of the country to shame.
  7. I'm not saying gambling isn't a problem but it's not what I would class a social problem. If you had 10 pokie machines in a pub you are more likely to see trouble from the amount drunk than someone feeding coins into a slot machine (That's until their partner finds out how much they have spent and that's another story lol)
  8. you see I could never spend $800 on a meal. I think coming to Perth for the 5 days with accommodation and food cost me less than that and this included the trip to the casino lol.
  9. We are the same, like I say I only go to the pokies when mum is over, we don't drink or smoke so it's the only place to go for some entertainment especially as I can't really go out for a meal now. Some of the clubs on the East coast give you free coffee/tea and even cakes and sandwiches. We play the 1c slots and bet 20 lines. We share one machine and put in $25 each maximum. Sometimes mum puts in more whilst I sit and play games on my phone.
  10. Welcome to the forum. You will love Perth, I live over in the East coast and have lived in Melbourne, Cairns and now I'm just outside Brisbane. I would move to Perth tomorrow if my husband would let me. He has never visited but prefers to be on the East coast. This is a great place to look to see what the costs are for Visas charged by agents https://www.mara.gov.au/using-an-agent/working-with-your-agent/agent-fees/
  11. What a shame, I'm surprised they are allowed as above the Boheme is surely classed as an historic building. You have a building we saw whilst walking around, it is a very old historic building and then they have plonked a modern new build high Rise apartment block on top. 'Mind you, I think all the other cities have probably demolished them all by now. It's such a shame as Perth is one of the most beautiful cities I have been to.
  12. It's strange isn't it as I don't see gambling as a social problem, not like drinking and drugs. In the UK we always had pokies (Slot machine) in the pubs and I never saw any trouble. Like you say Anne every other state have them in the clubs and pubs. It just feels like someone is getting a back hander from keeping it in the casino only.
  13. Ok, today I spoke with the Boheme and they informed me that the Boheme, Moon and Six Pence and others in that block are being kicked out. The person who owns the building as better things planned (more like someone as offered him more money). I was also told that Jamie's is also closing down. Does anyone know what's happening and what's going to take their place?
  14. Ok, first let me say I'm not a huge gambler, but when my mum comes to Australia I usually take her out to the Pokies for an hour or two. I was quite surprised over here, are Pokies banned in pubs and clubs? We went to the casino tonight and I was shocked at how large a venue it is, I've been to the Casino in Sydney, Cairns and Townsville as well as ones in Las Vegas and was shocked at the size. It's a lovely venue, although we were disappointed as we only usually play the 1cent slots and over here 99% of them were a minimum of 5C. It seems like the casino as the monopoly and plays on this.
