      457 visa process times

      Hi People
I just wanted to put up a post,
      1. To say hello to all in Perth and ill see you there in 6 weeks
      2. To say how quick things can happen, when you think your 457 visa is going to take two months.
I’ll just say that 14 days from submission from the UK end to Granted took me by surprise (a very happy surprise and I have a huge smile on my face.) so ill see anyone who’s in Perth around the 14 April 2010.
Now all I need is advice on an area to live in around Perth? Anyone with any advice? All advice well received!
      Thanks All Dave

Hey Dave, well done on your visa. Can I ask how you went about your 457 ? Did your company in the UK have an opportunity for you in Oz? I thought I had a position available in Sydney, but they've let me down. Got friends in Perth, so looking at that as an alternative. I'm in sales and marketing management. If you or anyone has any advice on getting 457 sponsorship - please share the secret ! Thanks Elaine.

Hi Elaine, thanks for the well done too.
In my case the job came about as a result of lots of luck.

Though job hunting in Oz is going to be the same as France or the Uk, though jobs need to be on the wanted list and prior to sponsorship the position must have been advertised locally first.

But if I had all the answers I really would share them with you.

Hey Dave, thanks for your reply and it seems luck does have a lot to do with it. I'm feeling more and more disheartened as time goes on because it seems like its turning out to be mission impossible ! But what will be will be I guess and I wish you the best of luck in your new life and your new adventure. Elaine:Wideeye:

      Hi
Don't get disheartened, where there is a will, there is a way.
The way I did it was this - I started applying for jobs in Perth in early January. I had lots of telephone interviews but no company would commit to an offer and wanted to meet me face to face. They wouldn't pay for flights over or anything either.
Anyway, I took the risk and booked a one way ticket over to Perth and came into the country on a 3month tourist visa.
Sometimes immigration has a problem with this but they never asked me any questions about why I was on a 1way ticket etc and my reason for visiting Australia. In all honesty, it was for interviews but a holiday as well.
Anyway, I had lots of face to face interviews and had 4 offers in the end with companies offering 457visas. The company already had an immigration agent who did all my paperwork and I've been waiting for 2 weeks now while the visa is being processed. The migration agent has informed me this morning that it's likely to take another 2 weeks which I think is standard but only time will tell. My job is an oil and gas recruiter and I have a degree and 5years plus experience in this field. Perhaps this has been easier as Personnel consultant is on the points list etc.
Don't give up and I'm sure you'll find a job somewhere as Australia is back on the up in terms of employment.
      Take care
      Lou

      Hi Dave,

We are two nurses (1 Brit, 1 Irish) living in Palmyra (about 5kms east of freo). We are both here on the 457 and know exactly what its like trying to arrange somewhere to live from afar (a pain in the arse!) Anyhoo we have a spare room that we rent out to people like yourself who are arriving in Perth and need somewhere short term while you get sorted out/find accom/car etc. Its a nice area near to lots of shops/public transport etc. We have ample parking and a pool in the garden plus all the mod cons you would expect. Its 20mins by car and 40mins by public transport to perth CBD. The rent is $150pw inc bills and the room is furnished. We would be happy to show you around and give you tips on perth and settling in. If you are interested contact me on here and we can swap email addresses.
      Cheers
      Cat

Thanks Lou for your encouraging message. It is very easy to lose heart quickly, and I think I will probably go over to Perth after I have finished up here in Sydney and see if things are a little more open over that side. Good luck with your job offers and I am sure you will get something fairly soon now. My job of Sales and Marketing Manager is also on the list - the challenge is to find someone that wants me ! Did you meet up with any recruitment agencies or did you contact companies directly through adverts they posted ? Were the companies offering 457 visa prepared to pay the costs of the visa or are you having to pay for this yourself as well ? I am prepared to pay costs if it means I can land a job. Would appreciate your feedback on that.....! thanks again.
