Do you need a skills assessment for a 457??

Hi, I've been offerd a 457 visa an electrican, it says on the application that trades require a skills assert, but ppl are saying u don't actually need to get a skills assessment, u just obviously do if u want to try get licensed etc! Any help? Lol

As it stands I am actually working for the bloke as a "casual" cash in hand kinda thing ATM so need to get the 457 app off soon as and if I have to go for a skills assessment etc it's just going to slow it all down!
