Australia Day!

What's everybody got planned for Australia day?

We were thinking of heading into Perth cbd but thinking it may be too busy for our little one so we may head to Fremantle instead as we've been told it is a bit quieter there- anyone know what is planned there?

It's forecast to be a warm one!

We always picnic on the foreshore, near The Boatshed restaurant/Sir James Mitchell Park. The fireworks look spectacular from there and if you park up near the Canning Highway and walk down it's easy to get out at the end of it.

The Fremantle fireworks are okay but nowhere near as breathtaking as those over the city.

For anyone up north near Jindalee, right on the beach , Chippy's beach shack is having an Aussie day with Live music,

waterslides, Shack style BBQ, Games and kids stuff, competitions and giveaways, open 8am for breakfast, Triple J's top 100 countdown starts at 9am, open till late.

There's even a shuttle service by Mindarie Miners so you don't drink and drive, servicing from Mindarie to Yanchep..

HAVE A HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY EVERYONE.header-flags.jpg

I'd like to go the CBD fireworks but just worried about parking or rammed trains to get back. It's says to use the Joondalup line, you have to catch the train from the underground station. Didn't even know perth had an underground train service, thought it was all above ground. Only been on the train once and I didn't notice any tube like part of the route from Joondalup. Can anyone enlighten me? How far away is that from the river where the action is?

Looks lovely Lou. @Akasully2 maybe park at south perth and get ferry over? apparently there is a kids zone over on that side. Or in city, parking at Concert hall and a few other car parks around there are fixed at $10. I think trains will be so busy so trying to decide what to do ourselves. Perth underground is at the end of Murray street, down stairs and has signs showing where to go for Joondalup line trains.

Lots going on at Fremantle -

Kick off your family afternoon on Australia day this year at the Fremantle Esplanade with free fun for the kids from 4pm including face painting and the fishing game with other games and rides also available for a small cost. The whole family will enjoy the laid back atmosphere with food markets and live music and entertainment.

Then head down to Bathers Bay to check out the Mermaids who will be basking in the sunshine on shore from 5pm – 7pm before the biggest ever Indian Ocean Fireworks!

Not only this, Channel 9 will be there with the Block themed tent including giveaways and activities for the kids! 96Fm will also be present on Bathers Beach making sure everyone is having a great time.

Bathers Beach house will be open and live music will be playing from Bathers Beach jetty throughout the afternoon until the live simulcast with 96fm begins with the fireworks.

The famous Sunset Markets will be operating from the Shipwreck Galleries grass from 4pm and the Galleries will be open with entry by donation from 9.30am until 7pm.

The roundhouse guides will be hosting a special tour in the morning.

What better way to spend your day than in the one and only Fremantle?

Other entertainment includes:

Fiddlestix

Welcome to Country

Citizenship Ceremony

Silva Dee and the Grasshoppers

Little Miss Squeezebox

Dilip n the Davs

WASAMBA

Phillip Wally-Stack's performance of Strong

The mermaids are fantastic for kids to see if they haven't seen them - adults also!

Thanks v. Much to the two Nikki's for train info.

Some locallers said to just keep away from the centre as crazy and just view it from further away, possibly with a bit of height. Any ideas where might be good?

East of Perth is good for getting a view from higher up . But not sure where you could set up picnics etc. there's a few national parks out that way so you could investigate those. We'll be in Greenmount at a bbq with a view all the way across to the city.

We viewed from the foreshore at South Perth last year which seemed quieter than going into the cbd but again we walked in from vic park so no idea what the traffic was like.

There's always kings park too but you'd have to get there early I'd have thought.
