      Places to eat Reviews

Thought it would be a good idea to have a places to eat:

      Sandrino's in Fremantle:

Sandrino's have bought the place next door and expanded, quite busy when we went for my birthday dinner - arrived just after 6 without booking and got a table (wednesday night) .. It got rather busy by 7pm so if it's a weekend i'd book in advance. The kitchens are open and watching the chef throw the pizza dough (and it almost hit the ceiling) provided entertainment for my 12 year old lol

Menu is available on line and they have a kids menu.

The kids shared garlic bread to start - 4 pieces in one serve. We shared the trio of dips which was served with Bianca bread (warm pizza bread with salt and herbs), there were about 12 pieces of bread - would easily do 3 or 4 people as a starter (the kids helped us out) and there was even some bread left over to save for the main.

      Mains were delicious:

Ham and Pineapple Pizza and a side order of chips for the 12 year old proved too much to finish (funny that the chips went though), but the staff boxed the remaining pizza for us to take home.
Daugher and I ordered pasta off the main menu - Penne for her (chicken, mushrooms and spinach in a cream sauce), fettucini, prawns, sundried tomato peso, basil and white wine cream sause for me. Hubby ordered off the specials board and had crab linguini which he said was excellent.

No room for dessert .... stuffed!.

2 jugs of coke throught the evening, pint of beer and small stella plus a bottle of wine for us.

Atmosphere - busy Italian, great place for a birthday - tables inside and out and I think you may now be able to sit on the upstairs verandah now they've expanded (not sure though)

Service - friendly and reasonable times between courses,

      Total for the evening $179

Cool idea! I'll be sure to try and add something next time I dine out.

It's hard enough remembering my opinions, without remembering my reasons for them...

We like the Steel Tree at Settlers in Baldivis, the food is yum and service is good, also like Tony Romas in Perth - the ribs are .... mmmmmmmmm....sorry I started drooling there.

I can't share your enthusiasm about that one. We went about a month ago and quite frankly it was the worst place I have ever eaten. Food awful, service even worse and very expensive. Maybe we went on a bad night but it's hard to give places a second chance when you have had such a terrible experience.

It's hard when you've possibly just had a bad night isn't it ... we went to outback jacks in Freo when it first opened and service was really dire which took away from the meal and we've not been back since ... but i've heard good things about it since ... so may bite the bullett lol

I like Outback Jacks in Freo but the one in Rockingham is pretty pants - especially for service.

We went when end of last year and the steak was tasteless, sticky, processed, chemical rich sauces, cold chips and unbelievably lackadaisical staff.
Two weeks later we were in an Italian place on Sth Terrace and we had the same waitress.
      "What gives?"
"It was a good laugh working there," she says "but I got fed up with everyone complaining about the food and the staff just didn't give ****. I'd never, ever eat there!"
I'm not sure I'd go back, there are better choices in Freo.

I went to the Yummy BBQ, Leach Hwy, Myaree on Saturday. It was recommended by a friend and is in kind of an odd location, tucked away behind Bunnings.
Wow, fantastic Dim Sum. Some of the best Siu Mai I've tasted, really sweet, plump, fresh prawn dumplings and fab Char Sui buns. Chilli squid tentacles were great and the chickens feet are great to gnaw on, make my daughter squeal and my son squirm.

Four of us stuffed, great big glasses of watermelon juice and chinese tea. We were stuffed for $85!

Also recommend Flipside Burgers, Nth Freo.
I love a good burger and I'm really choosy but these are better than most.

Finally the momo dumplings at the Himalayan Restaurant, Albany Highway, Vic Park. The whole menu is good but the momo and the lollipop chicken are great. Great value and generous portions. It's BYOB too.

Stage Door Mandurah, yum yum and treble yum, with a view to die for. Catch 22 Mandurah, gorgeous. I have been told C restaurant is fab, apparently it has a restaurant that swivels 360 degrees up in the 18th or something floor right in the heart of Perth CBD, not tried it yet, but make ask we go there for my birthday. The Invitation book is good for finding places to eat and also gives you money off too. Spurs in Mandurah is nice, more of a family place I would say. Had a smashing burger there. My OH and son like Hogs Breathe, but I must be honest Im not so keen, I didnt like Outback Jacks in Rockingham much either. The Woodfired Pizza in Subiaco was really nice to, I had a smashing pasta, oh and Rustico's in Rockingham do a lovely tapas, while the R Bar in Rockingham to a fantastic Cheeseboard........and I wonder why I am soo fat
