      Question Head Full of Suburbs!!

      Hello folks!

We are off to Perth hopefully at the end of the year once we have finished selling the house. We had always been set on moving to Secret Harbour as had heard so much about it from friends who live there. Since reading some threads on here I am now a little put off and having been researching other suburbs that might be suitable. Well now I have a list of suburbs and have no idea which one to choose and how to even pick the final two!!

So, I am calling on the lovely folk on here (posted on PIO also) who have lived/visited any of these suburbs to try and help me make a decision!

I suppose our main criteria are as follows:
      • Good primary school for my five year old soon (happy to consider private)
      • Good community feel (we are used to a village)
      • Lots of outdoor space and parks as my son has sooooo much energy to burn!!
      • Low crime area
      • Quiet area as not a city girl but love to visit for shopping!
      • Hubby will be working in CBD so will need to get the train.
      • Happy to be driving distance from the beach but as long as its easy to get there!
Last of all, here are the suburbs that I have looked at:
      • Secret Harbour
      • Melville
      • Duncraig
      • Atwell
      • Baldivis
      • Leeming
      • Mundaring area (Perth Hills) (issue with bushfires??)
If you can think of any others that you think sound like they fit my requirements, please let me know but I am trying to reduce the number not increase!

So any good points and bad points would really really help me as I am desperately trying to decide!!

Your help and advice is as always very much appreciated.

      Nicky xx

      Hi Nicky,

We are also heading to Perth soon (once house is sold), we are heading to secret harbour for all the same reasons as you!!

After reading this thread I am a little concerned, what negatives have you read? I would be really I interested as it's so important to get this move right, ( we have done it before ).

Hopefully you will get some useful information back it will be a interesting read.

      Hi Anouska,

I am still interested in Secret Harbour as our friends rave about it but I was a little concerned at the school reports for Comet Bay. I also read that there is a new housing estate being built nearby and the children from there will have to go to Comet Bay as a new school might not be built as first thought. This would mean a very large school!

Its good to keep options open and make sure that we are happy with the area chosen. It is such an important decision after all!
There are so many lovely suburbs and these forums are perfect for getting a feel for what its like to live there.

      Good luck with your move!

      Hi Nicky,

Yes I agree with what you have said about the schools, I have herd that most state school are very similar and not like the UK . ( primary seem to be better than senior)

Have you thought of an independent school? I think that's the path will take.

I am a little confused, like you really want to get it right .

Keep an open mind and wait until you get here. I have a friend who was set on Warnbro (I have never been there!) They got a rental there and within a month were not happy, moved to another suburb and were happy as larry. See how you feel when you get here. Take a holiday rental somewhere central and do lots of driving around.

Thanks for your reply. We will be staying with friends when we get there but I want a short list of places to look at. I really don't want my son to be out of school to much when we arrive. Looking forward to looking around these lovely suburbs though!!

We are hopefully (fingers crossed and bribes payable to my sponsor allowing) heading out in the new year. we spend most days staring at reports of areas, crime rates, transport links etc etc. we spend so much time looking at the usual sorts of websites that it's probably for the best we do go to Perth becuse if not we'd get sacked for using the tinternet rather working.

Anyway, have a look at this link, it lets you choose what's important i.e. near beach, schools etc and then you can work out the areas from there.

      Good luck

The kids finish school middle of December and don't go back until early February so take the time to find the right place.

Hi Nicky - I answered your post on PIO - we live in Leeming and older suburb but close to just about everything. Schools in the area have a good reputation too. Not everyones cup of tea because it's an older suburb - but it does mean that usually the plot is bigger.
Lord make my words sweet and reasonable. For some day I may have to eat them
