  1. Hi Ed and Jen. Fully understand how you feel, we had good and bad start to our life here. But you know what, I've realised something and that is to just move on get over it and chalk it up to experience. We've been here just over 8 years and we're realising you don't need an extensive circle of friends. We have a handful, and some we've only recently made and some we've known since we arrived. We don't live in each other's pockets we have a laugh when we do meet up whether that's for drinks coffee or BBQ or just bumping into each other at the shops. But the conclusion we have come to is that you have to learn from whatever life throws at you. It will happen you just have to go with it. I used to worry about it being my fault, people being nasty. I've now realised its not me it's them. It happens a lot, and I've never worked out why. Anyway I wish you all the best, life here is great as you know, and Kinross is a pretty good place to live too Jane
  2. No. Happy as it is. We get enough sunlight as it is. Sunrise is early, I go to work early, knackered when I get home. I can enjoy enough of the day when I'm home.
  3. http://det.wa.edu.au/termdates/detcms/navigation/current-dates/ these are the dates of the terms for this year on the WA education website, I hope it helps. Jane
  4. Kinross, lived here just about since we emigrated, we're very happy here. I do prefer the much older suburbs though. But some of them are so expensive. Maybe when our kids have finished with school we might sell up and move somewhere else, who knows, never say never
  5. In my past experience I have lost all my music on my iPod. So I've now resorted to a usb stick, so much easier. As for saving iTunes to an external drive I would assume so, you just have make sure you link them so it will upload any music from there. I've given up with my iPod though. Hope it helps. Jane
  6. Yes, my 21 yr old went to both.. My youngest is still at Kinross college, he's in year 9, he's 14. My 16 yr old daughter goes to Mindarie, yr 11. I've had no issues with the teaching, and if there is ever anything the school are quick to get in touch. Actually both kinross and Mindarie are. They are both doing well at both schools. Jane x
  7. Your welcome, good luck with everything x
  8. I'm a carer in a nursing home, looking at changing jobs at the mo. Had the interview just got to do all the nitty gritty stuff then I can hand my notice in. My hubby is an electrician but he's not on the tools anymore, he's pricing up in the office. Jane
  9. Harvey is south, a two hour trip for me from Kinross. I love it down south. Beautiful. We're hoping to have a trip down to Dunsborough for the weekend in a couple of weeks. Jane
  10. My husband is the one to shop with over here, we went shopping for a new dishwasher, the old one had been alive for 14 yrs and it died. And I wanted the same one, we knew they were expensive, $1400 or there abouts. So of we went from shop to shop, prices ranged from the above mentioned $1400 down to $1200. A big difference, so he got his bartering head on, and we got it for even lower than the lowest, just over $1000. I know still expensive, but it proves the point. Anyway we are all into saving money else where so I can have my dishwasher, hehe. We try and do all the money saving ideas mentioned, and we are still trying to cut down even more, we've invested in solar panels, so eventually when we've finished paying for them we'll be laughing. We're lucky though we both work and we have a reasonable amount of money coming in, but I want to change jobs, which means I'll be casual for a while and may not have a lot of shifts to start, so we have got to cut back, reduce payments on the mortgage and car loan etc. So what I'm trying to say is keep it up, it will stand you in good stead for life in oz. I've loved reading this thread, I followed it when it first started. All the best to everyone with your future adventures and to those of you that have made it, long may it continue. Jane
