Singapore Stopover

Recommended Posts

We will be stopping in Singapore for 2 nights on our way to Perth in August. We're flying with Singapore Airlines so will probably book a hotel with them. Has anyone who has done this already have any recommendation? We won't be going clubbing as we have our 2 year old with us so shopping and a nice meal will be on the cards.

TIA

Hi there,

Singaporean here. Born and breed. Now living in Bunbury.

Let see.. 2 days with a baby...hmm

Universal studios.... nope

Casinos.... nope

Shopping.. yes.

Along the strip of Orchard Road. You will have plenty of shopping. Ion Orchard being high end stuffs.

Night market in Bugis Junction. A small version of Chatucak night market in Thailand.

Heaps of eateries everywhere. Just depends on your tastebuds.

I would recomend going to east coast food court. By the beach and plenty of asian delights.

Order a teh tarik from an indian drink stall. And feast on crabs or sup tulang.

For sightseeing, I would recommend the night safari or river safari.

Just choose a hotel near the MRT(tube). Its will get you almost anywhere.

Beside being a small country, you can get to all corners for less than 30 bucks.

Thats all I have for you guys. Have a safe journey.

And pls tell all your friends that Singaporean speaks English and taxi driver do not rip you off.

Just seen your message. We stayed for two nights at the Mandarin Marina overlooking the water, this was a couple of years ago. However, our deal was done on booking with Quantas so comparatively inexpensive, something about wanting to get people to stay over. Also we were child free, so may not be suitable. It was next door to a shopping mall, and in the evening a street food market, which was a bit of a challenge!! Lots of places to stay though, so the best of luck in finding somewhere.

We looked into stopping on our way over but decided to save the money and just get to Oz sooner, we found it an expensive place to stop, especially the accommodation side of things (we haven't done the Singapore stopover thing with Singapore airlines though so can't comment on that). Saying that, it is a very lovely, kid friendly place and I highly recommend stopping, especially if you don't know when you'll be able to have another holiday! The zoo is fantastic, remember to take a swimming costume and towel for your little one, there is a really great water playground half way round the zoo. Same goes for the bird park I think. The botanical gardens are also worth a look if you have time (and free too!). Remember to take your boarding passes with you when you are out and about, Singapore airlines have 'boarding pass privileges' deals with some attractions to give you discounts.

When booking accommodation and comparing prices check out what taxes are included, there are a couple of taxes levied that can add up to around 20% I think, a bit of a shock if you're not expecting it!

There doesn't seem to be any subsidy from Singapore Airlines! Cheapest hotel is £270 for 2 nights and dearest is £650 for 2 nights!

Flatpack I've just been having a look at Singapore airlines and you can book stopover hotels through them if you've booked your flights with them. I certainly hope we can get a good deal on hotels there as we are planning to stay at least 5 nights.

Keep us updated on whether you manage to get a good deal in the end.

I recently stayed in Singapore for 2 nights at the Mercure Roxy with a 2year old and a 3 month old baby. They were great. It's not close to the MRT but we found the taxis to be cheap and they do offer free shuttles to Orchard Road.

We are thinking of doing another trip at the end of the year does anyone have any experiences with Sentosa's hotels?

Have stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel & Festive Hotel (both on Sentosa) in the last couple of years. Both were very good.

Can anyone advise whether the current deal prices for hotels are available? I am finding the stopover prices through the airlines expensive?

We booked ours through Dial-a-flight and I must say they've been brilliant so far. We are a family of 5 and so have to take 2 adjoining rooms at the hotel we've booked but they've managed to negotiate £300 off the total cost with the hotel.

Yep agree, always used Dial-a-Flight and had good experiences.

Watching this thread with interest. We are going over to Perth is August for a reccie. Very excited but also nervous. Flying with 3 under 9s. Been looking at doing to singapore stop over. Very interested in the there park area but very excited about the Legoland hotel in Malasia. It looks amazing but not sure its truly possible with this journey. Struggling for find reasonable accommodation with 3 kids so going to see what some of the companies you have suggested a try.

I am the same with 3 children, whenever I look for good stopovers they seem to be so expensive as we need 2 hotel rooms!

Wow I didn't know there was a LEGOLAND hotel in Malaysia, I will now nip off to take a peep x

I know two rooms with 3 young children is not the best! Yes there is a legoland hotel! Brand new too. They even do collection and drop off from airport. However as usual geared up for a family of 4. :arghh:

I have looked at some many options/combinations/rentals in Perth I forget what I found where!

We find the same...three's a crowd! You have to often book 2 rooms, hope for adjoining and pay for 4 adults and one child! I would have thought hotels would have started to realise there are lots of families with 3 kids and looked to meet their needs. We're staying at a hotel in Cyprus this week in a family room. Sleeps 2 adults and up to 4 children in 2 rooms laid out in a apartment style. It's great!
