duty free

you will have to declare it on your little card you get on the plane to fill out before landing. This will be shown to immigration officer on your arrival then its up to them if they want to have a look inside your bags and check. I'd wrap it really well tho, as it has to get loaded in UK by our gentle baggage handlers and then again in Dubai/Singapore or wherever your transiting through so a good chance your clothes will be smelling of plonk and full of glass.

Why not buy it at your transit stop????

Duty free allowances apply to passengers entering Australia.

If you are aged 18 years or over you can bring the following items:

•2250ml of alcoholic beverage.

•50 cigarettes or 50 grams of cigars or tobacco products duty-free into Australia with you. All tobacco products in accompanied baggage are included in this category, regardless of how or where they were purchased.

•Unlimited fragrance for personal use (excluding concentrates).

Each adult over 18 years is allowed A$900 worth of other goods, while each child is allowed A$450. Alternatively, you can combine your allowances on the one declaration with your immediate family (maximum two adults per family), which means two adults and two children = A$2700.

Further information on allowances at http://www.customs.gov.au.

It would be classed as part of your allowance, but unless it's a gift you've been bought, as previously said, you'd need to wrap it really well as it will have to go in your checked in baggage.

if you buy it from outside the airport you will not be able to take it on plane as hand luggage due to the security regarding carry liquids/gels/pastes in commercial airliner cabin. If you buy from Tesco's you will have to pack it in your case, which, if your buying in bulk is going to chew up your baggage allowance.

Buy at your transit airport they will seal it so you can carry it onwards in the cabin to Perth

Plan was to buy it at airport but got bottles for xmas presants

I bought some vodka back to the UK in hold luggage. Wrap it in bubble wrap and box it. Tbh UK supermarkets seem cheaper than most duty free. UK especially. Perth duty was open at three in the morning. Chocolate was expensive in Dubai.

Last week Singapore Changi seemed a tad cheaper than Perth duty free. :) Interestingly you'll have to make your purchase at Changi minimum 90 mins before your Oz onward flight departure time, otherwise they will not sell to you (the purchased goods appear to gate, you cannot carry them through security).
