      Hi Mark,
I'm sorry I can't answer the question on what NVQ you need. But I will certainly recommend you using an agent. They know exactly what you need for your application and will get you through the visa procedure so much quicker than trying to do it all yourself!
We are being sponsored on a 457 visa, and our employer has done the application by himself, it's taken so long just to get him approved, then he put our nomination in and because we didn't have an agent the CO want additional info from us. Which has slowed things up even more. If we had had an agent it would have been completed by now !
I hope someone else on here can answer your other questions
      Good luck

Hi mark I am a hairdresser hoping to make the move next year, I could get no definite answers about level 3 so I figured just do it to be on the safe side, better to have it and not need it!! Like you I have been hairdressing forever and the thought of going to college with a load of 18 years isn't great but I have been able to produce evidence using photo's and last week was my first in salon assessment visit and pretty much signed most of my assessment book, I just need 1 restyle 3 put up's and 1 per pigment colour correction and I am done, so it's not so daunting :)
My wages research for Perth was $45.500-$50,000 per year.
I am using a agent my advise is use for skills assessment do your own state sponsorship and use for diac all that scanning and uploading documents is a day of your life you will never get back lol
We have always wanted WA but had to go SA I had my SA SS lodged then they pulled hairdressers, the agent charged me nearly £400 to do the SS and I ended up redoing it myself, so when WA came up I told them I was doing it, it's a piece if cake.
      Good luck :)

hi we applied may 2009 and at that point i didn't need a level 3 as long as i had more than 900 hours college time and more than 5 years exp but i would recommend using an agent as it can get quit confusing we used darren chatt at visa-go based in edinburgh we then applied for state sponsorship in august 2009 and got our visa's in oct 2011 so hope you're a patient person Lol....hope this helps i also needed more than 20 refferences from clients,my accountant ,tax and stockists e.t.c so having an agent was helpfull as there was alot of paper work good luck its worth it in the end

Just to let you know once you are here the Hairdressing Registration board is NO MORE , where as when i came over 3 years ago i had to resit my exams once here and pay yearly Registration fees .
Sorry im not much help with the visa sa we came out on my Husbands Visa Metal Machinist .
We used first contact migration agents though and got along fine with them .
      All the best !
