      Coming to Perth in June!

      Hi everyone

Just a quick intro to say hello. Me, my husband and our fifteen month old daughter are emigrating in June this year - very excited but nervous as hell too!

Been bogged down in getting shipping quotes, trying to decide what to take (a couple of people have advised us to take EVERYTHING plus more) and the dreaded suburb research.

Really looking forward to moving and would appreciate any advice - you may see me on here a lot in the next few months so apologies in advance!

      Hi there

I know exactly how u feel, myself, hubby and 4 year old daughter are arriving in july and i feel nervous as hell.

To be honest im getting a headache thinking about it all...i was advised to bring everything from uk but i git a quote for shipping and full container is £4500. Ive had a look at ikea website in oz and i reckon i could get everything for similar price in oz.

We have family in nor so think we are looking at places like banksia grove, clarkson, quinns rock but again im pretty blind as to what they are like.

Let me know how u get on and maybe we could meet up once we are both there?

Hi and welcome, we brought everything ... remember you'll need to buy white goods, pots and pans etc., Our floor space here is larger - so have two lounges which both needed sofa's ... bringing stuff meant we only needed to buy one), you'll also have your outdoor areas which need furnishing (table/chairs, BBQ's etc.).

Make a general list of things you would need to set up home - Fridge, Freezer, Beds (depending on number of bedrooms), a lot of houses have built in robes, but you'll need drawers, sofas, TV's, pots and pans, crockery. Also when we were looking at new beds, some of them weren't really that well made.

It really is a personal choice, work out the cost of shipping and convert it into $ to know how much you'd have to spend - then have a look at the on line shops.

Thanks for the replies Lesley and Ali!

We were surprised that we would need a full container as we have a small 2 bed house but when we costed up replacing white goods, bikes, sofas, etc it didn't seem worth buying new in Perth. Especially since the shipping companies have put us down for about 20 boxes of books - would cost a fortune to replace all those let alone furniture! I must admit, I only had the briefest of looks at prices online before I got bored with it...

Not sure where we will rent at first - I had though nor and we have a couple of weeks short term accommodation booked near Joondalup but now I think I might prefer sor! It's so difficult to decide on a place to live for six months from your kitchen table in England - I think the best option is to drive round a bunch of suburbs and see where we like the look of. Of course, it will depend on where Rich gets a job too.

Lesley - would def like to meet up when you get out there too!

      Hi CruDeShue,

We are at the same stage as you, shipping quotes coming in at very random cost ranging from £3500-£4500 same cubic capacity too. We are arriving in Perth hopefully 25th June, we are hoping to stay near Baldivis, not sure why there, but it appeals to me. OH not bothered where we live as long as he has a access to good jobs.

Maybe we could meet up when we are settled or not depending on stress levels lol.

      Hi Sharon

yay - def meet up! We have a few 'friends of friends' in Perth but would be lovely to have people who are going through the same emotions and issues as us!

Baldivis looks nice - we saw it on Wanted Down Under!

Shipping quotes are a nightmare and we keep changing our minds about what to take and discovering pieces of furniture and boxes of stuff at our parents' houses! It will all get sorted in the end I suppose. At the moment we are ebaying and selling loads of surplus stuff - whatever we make will go towards the shipping cost. I suppose I could probably half the cubic feet by getting rid of half my clothes and books...

I think it's those personal items ... we brought books, photograph albums ... crockery that only gets used on special occasions (but had been a wedding gift). Had to replace my food processor and electric whisk in these last 5 years ... and i know in the grand scheme of things they aren't mega expensive ... but I've used them a lot and only had to replace them when they've broken. If you add up the cost of everything you would take (it would come to more than a container i'm sure. Additionally, i've heard people say that they've gone to their prefered company and said ... so and so said they could do it for such a price ... it's a competative market ... they want your cash.

The sales man from AngloPacific actually said 'please get in touch with me if we are more expensive as there's always room for a bit of haggling'! We will definitely be negotiating - can't afford not to!

Just to replace two of Rich's bikes would cost almost as much as shipping EVERYTHING!
