    PR; 189 vs 186 visa

Thanks for the replies. Am waiting to hear back from our agent. I just struggle with how it can cost $4200 for an agent to oversee things and assist with the forms.... Why are the ENS visas the most common to be refused?? If you're already on a 457 and they can prove they cant fill the post with an Australian I'd hope it was more reliable than the 189 route....?

    PR; 189 vs 186 visa

I believe there is around 40% refusal at the moment verystormy on 186 and 187 are higher! Employers are also very wary nowadays with the huge SAF levy they have to pay. rollingstone1980, I think you have an agent already so speak to them. My fee for a 186 is $4400 , the going rate in WA is between $4000-$5000, but if you find a new agent they may be cheaper. You can tell how long they have been registered for by the first 2 digits of the MARN. Mine is 1173200 which means I have been doing this for 8 years since 2011!

I would strongly recommend using an agent. The downside of employer sponsored is that they are on of the most common visas to be refused.

    Eaton / Bunbury

Hiya, I am keen to hear from anyone who lives down near the coast on South Western Australia - in particular the Eaton / Bunbury area. My partner is English and we have been living in England for 5 years now but we are now looking to head back to Australia and are very drawn to moving down south as we feel it would suit us. I am from Perth originally and have always enjoyed my holidays down this way. What we are after is somewhere with a slower pace of life, lots of green spaces, and a good place to raise a family. What I was hoping for was any input from people that do live down this way. What do you like / dislike about it? Are there any particular suburbs you would recommend? Is it easy enough to find jobs and housing? Thank you!

    PR; 189 vs 186 visa

Thank you Ali and New Life Down Under for your replies. My employer is looking at sponsorship and nomination now so am hoping we can go down the 186 route. 80 points for the 189 is a nightmare, I have a degree and have worked in my profession for many years but because I am 38 years old that would be virtually impossible to attain?! Has anyone applied for a 186 without the help of an agent?? Paying around $4200 for the completion of forms and submission of documents seems excessive, but I can't seem to find out just how feasible it would be to try and apply ourselves rather than using an agent? Thanks so much

    Thai airways

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. This puts our mind at rest as yeah the price is so much lower than the others. We’ve flown Emirates, Qatar, Malaysian, Virgin and Qantas and out of those Malaysian was the better but now Thai is coming up at $4300 which is superb and if the service is good as you say I think we’ll go for it. I’ll remember the passport tip for sure. Thanks Bristle, much appreciated.

Here is how things went. Check-in at PERTH Airport was very quick and got through all the security checks easily. There was a delay of 30mins in boarding but no announcements were made and the departures screen said nothing so a bit of confusion but eventually boarded very quickly. First Flight Cabin crew were polite and helpful. Snacks and drinks were served early in the flight and then main meal. If wanting wine ask for a couple of glasses as only pour a small measure. OH had booked “bland” option for food and had chicken, mashed potato and green beans for main course. The normal option was chicken curry with rice or beef with potato gratin. Soft drinks were brought around during the flight and alcohol could be asked for. Entertainment was OK and, although I had seen some of the films, there was plenty to view. Bangkok Airport transfer only a short stop but did not enjoy the experience as over 30 degrees and no aircon in the airport. After walking from the plane drop off through to transfer lounge were drenched and felt uncomfortable until we were able to board the second flight. Second Flight Again there was a delay in boarding, with no announcements, but we boarded quickly so weren’t too late in leaving. Service was the same as first flight so no complaints. First meal “bland” option was salmon with rice. Main options were Chicken Thai green curry or a pork stew. Wine served by half measure again. Same entertainment as first flight but managed to keep ourselves occupied. Plane was darkened for large part of flight so people could sleep but extra drinks available on request. Breakfast: Bland option was fish with potato balls, main option was hash brown, pork sausage and omelette. Heathrow Airport Disembarked quickly and then reached immigration. Use your UK passport if possible as the non-EU line was horrendous. When we reached the luggage reclaim there were piles of luggage from other flights awaiting collection. They also started to make a pile of luggage awaiting people from our flight. Overall the trip was not bad and the flight were OK. We saved $600pp on the whole trip so can’t complain. Flight service was good and we have travelled with Emirates and Singapore before. Due to the price saving it was worth it for us (apart from Bangkok Airport). Hope this helps.

    FORM 888

Just a quick question, Can this form be completed by a person living in the UK that is NOT an Australian Citizen? A family member has completed one and they are living in Australia and are Australian citizens and have had there certificates and passports certified. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone applied for citizenship lately?

I asked at thew immigration department and she said it was doable but tight. We have to wait until immigration inform the council before we can request a sooner date and I'm not sure how long that will take. I'll give it 4 weeks before I ring the council.
  23. Still aiming for a 1 August trip? If so, that might be a bit tight. Could try ringing the council and seeing if they'll fit you in soonest. Other than that, brace for the cost of RRV.

Has anyone applied for citizenship lately?

So after loads of swatting and completing mock Citizenship Tests on an app the OH went to do her interview and test. She was real nervous and out of maybe 40 or 50 mock tests she had failed only twice, the very first one and one about halfway through. However guess which ones she was concentrating on lol. Anyway I went with her and off she goes for the interview armed with her docs. 20 mins later she comes out and heads straight for the door, walking at a much faster pace than usual. I had to catch her up, i asked how she'd gone on. Her face said she'd failed but she'd passed with 90%. Just waiting for the next step now which they said can be 3-6 months wait. At least our council do ceremonies every month. Are we going to beat the deadline before we need an RRV?

    Newbie, any advice please?

How about getting married? You can get a prospective marriage visa, which would allow you to go to Oz to get married and then apply for a partner visa.

    Newbie, any advice please?

Thank you for your reply. Ive looked into it and Perth isn’t a state that recognises the relationship register. I spoke to an immigration agent today who said we had no chance of doing it that way as it looks too manufactured I said what about if I live in Perth for 6 months on a tourist visa (leave after 3 and then go back) and then my partner come to the uk for 6 months, so we have lived together for 12 months and he said no, it looked too manufactured and that I can’t just come and go on a 3 month tourist visa, I’ll risk not being let into the country. But we just want to be together and we are trying to find a way to do it, do it is manufactured because the law won’t let me just move over. Feeling very deflated and sad.

    PR; 189 vs 186 visa

Sad to hear your agent is not useful! For ENS you need to have a fulltime position to be sponsored. BV's are issued in most cases upon the valid application of a substantive visa onshore and only come into effect when the current visa ceases. BVA is the usual with no travel rights. I heard no invitations under 80 in the last round, but that could just be rumours! Havent had anyone invited under 75 points this year

    Newbie, any advice please?

It sounds feasible to me, though there may be other options. In some states in Oz it is possible to register a relationship which means you don't need to have lived together for 12 months.

    Newbie, any advice please?

Hi there i am brand new to the forum and I hope I can get a bit of advice. My partner is Australian and I would like to move over to be with him ASAP. Because we don’t live together at the moment we have spent the last few weeks (he has been to the uk for a visit) researching all the different visas, (I am 46 and don’t have a skilled job) so we are looking at me coming over on a tourist visa. We would live for 3 months in Brisbane and then 3 months in Perth (he will be working in the mines doing 2 weeks away and a week at home) and then possibly us both coming back to the uk for the last 6 months together, to get us over the 12 month Defacto threshold. Does anyone think this is a feasible option? He is going to see a migration advisor in the next week or so but I’m feeling very low as he’s just flown back and I need a bit of something good to cling on too.
