I'm sure it will work out ok. The visa agents know what they are doing.

I'm not sure really. I have not spoke to my agent too much about it. I completed my NVQ L3 in 2012 so this cannot be used as I do not have enough experience post qualification. With the 13 years I have been bricklaying, 5 years will be classed as training, then 8 years as a bricklayer. This is how I get my work experience points. Hope it makes sense.

I was really dreading the IELTS, but as long as you get plenty of practice in I'm sure you'll be fine. My wife has a cousin in Perth, which is probably the main reason we will be heading there, along with the fact bricklayers really seem to be in demand. My only worry with living in Perth though would be the heat, especially having to work in it all day. We did consider Adelaide as the climate would be more bearable. But I'm sure after being there a while we will get used to it JenPen... What is your husbands trade? Has he passed the 1st stage of VETASSESS?
  4. I am using Ian Harrop. Found them excellent so far, just submitted paper part to VETASSESS (bricklayer).

Yeah, same for me with gathering evidence. I have always been self-employed but most of my work since 2001 has been with the same company, which made it easier for my references. Unfortunately I only got 10 points for my IELTS, speaking, listening and writing were all above 8 but I only got 7 for reading. Really annoyed with myself as I found this the easiest when practicing. If I don't get an invite to apply before my birthday I think I will apply for state sponsorship so I don't have to do the IELTS again. Do you have and friends/family already in Perth?

Hopefully mine doesn't take to long to come back too. I see on another thread you are trying to get your visa sorted before February. My 33st is also in February so trying to get the invite to apply before then. I have already done my IELTS so all going well with the paper part for VETASSESS it wil be on to the technical interview, get the pass then submit EOI. Sounds so easy. That's what my agent has told me anyway.
  7. Hi My agents have submitted the paper part of my skills recognition to Vetasses. Does anyone know roughly how long it will take to get a result? It is for bricklayer if it helps. Thanks Dan
  8. Thanks for your opinions. I have decided to do the IELTS. Although I don't necessarily need the points or the pass right now I may need them further along the line, as pointed out. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with the speaking, reading and listening, it's just the writing I might struggle with as I've hardly put pen to paper since leaving college. I've been looking at the study books, there are a few to choose from. Anyone have any recommendations? I'll study hard for a few months and do the test in January. Thanks again all of you for your comments Dan
  9. Hi As this is my first post I'll just take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Dan, a 31 year old bricklayer from Essex. I am married to Holly, 28, and we have a handsome little boy of 7 months called Miller. We have been talking about moving to oz for years now, since travelling the east coast in 2006. We have decided on heading to Perth as we have family there and it seems to be the place to be for brickies(obviously the weather and beautiful beaches aswell). We are going to start the process in the new year, starting with vetassess. We will be applying for a 190 visa. I have a total of 60 points. Now here the question finally comes: Should I do the IELTS test to gain more points? Would it make it easier or faster for our application to go through? Or is 60 points fine and I'm worrying about nothing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Dan
