  1. Hi Brett Can't see you have had a reply to the time needed for the second vac. I would appreciate any info on that too. Our house is paying the second vac and slow progress on the sale. I have been told that Centrelink are taking around 12 weeks to process the AOS and one contact I have in another forum has said she has been waiting two months for the case officer to request her second vac after it has all been finalised, therefore could be anything between 4-8 months from when case officer appointed but than what if is whizzes through ??? Again I was told that when the funds are requested they give you just 28 days to pay but an extension "may" be allowed . They don't make it easy to plan . I am getting a little stressed about the dilemma of it all ! Can't moan I suppose as on all the forms it says you should have the total funds available before applying but realistically not many people have £60k in the petty cash box. ( not up north anyway ) I am hoping to chat to our agent for as much info as possible to try and plan the finances , I will relay any information I get to you. Geoff Geoff
  2. Well done, see you later this year or early next, we hope. Geoff
  3. Hi, Thanks for all information. My agent had notification from immigration to say there had been more than normal amount of applications in March 2014. If they are past that now maybe things will speed up !. So if we sell up now we can move over on a tourist visa. Can't get jobs on that visa though, can we ?. Thanks again Geoff
  4. Thanks for the information Steely, I would love to see Everton take the title first but perhaps we got more chance of the visa's coming through eh? . Lets remain realistic !
  5. Thanks very much for all replies and information. Looks like a long wait ! More time to get the fees together I suppose.
  6. We have put our application in Dec 2014, to emigrate on a contributary parent visa. We have been told that we get a case officer appointed between 12 - 24 months, then we might get approved within 60 days and when approved we have only 28 days to come up with about $100.000 ( £50k) !. Unfortunately we dont have that in our petty cash and it will come from the sale of our house, so the problem is when do we start selling our house? Too soon and we have turmoil of clearing our stuff and renting , too late and we may lose our application fees etc. Dilemma Has anyone any inside information how long the wait is before we get a case officer?, or any advice where we can get information to give us a clue?. Any info would be helpful, thanks
  7. Hi Vburger, thanks for the reply. Are you talking about the benefit side of things. I can see, unlike the UK, Australia is not a soft touch which I am fine with. I don't want to get in a desperate situation which is why the financial assistance is a concern. I have every intention to get a job but wonder if most doors will close in my face due to age. I have been in sales all my life and thats where I would probably repay most employers best but I will drive, do deliveries etc but how hard have you found it to get jobs or even interviews ? Any information from anyone would be welcome Thanks
  8. What sort of reception do older folk get when applying for decent jobs? In th UK ageism can exist and especially through agencies it seems they can have a certain profile in mind. Being "very mature" sometimes isn't on the list of desirable qualities? Is it similar in Australia or is it more of a level playing field?. We are grafters and want to work ( and need to) but how much assistance is available if work just cannot be found . I am sure this won't apply as although I have a lot to offer ( I think ) what happens if no one will employ you but you have not hit pension age yet?. Anyone senior in age have any feedback or advice to offer? thanks
