  1. Hi, my kids don’t go to Poynter but my friends kids do, she says it’s a really great school. They will do sports a couple times a week following the curriculum but then there may be after school teams that they could join. They will do 2 weeks of swimming lessons a year and the local schools all organise inter school sports competitions in year 6 for 1 term and there are I think 4 sports they can choose from, soccer being 1 of them. If they are in to soccer they could join a soccer team, you will arrive in time to join a club before the season starts, Hamersley FC train at Carine Open Space which is close by and is a lovely little club, my son played for them for a season when we first arrived. Good luck with the move [emoji2] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hi Bryan, I can really relate to your post. We’ve been here 3 years in Feb and found it really tough at times. My hubby is gas engineer/plumber and has really struggled with work since we arrived, he’s only now starting to settle down and has a permanent job, but it’s taken him this long to build up contacts etc. luckily I got a job 3 months after getting here so we were able to manage but it was never the plan for me to work full time and as such it’s meant that I haven’t been able to build any meaningful relationships in the suburb (we live in Duncraig too!) as I wasn’t able to do the whole school thing. Completely get what you mean about your wife not making ‘school’ friends, it’s harder when they get older. We’ve got 2 kids - our son is also 13 so probably in same year as your son, now going in to Year 8, and got a daughter now about to start year 7 so they’ll both be at DSHS. Are your boys at DSHS or Carine HS? We do have some friends in Tapping and Carramar and also close friends in Duncraig but they are friends from UK who we have known for years so that makes life a lot easier. We have had many ups and downs since we’ve been here but we always decided that we’d need to stick it out for 2 or 3 years to really make a go of it, and it seems like we may just be getting there. I’m not very good at putting myself out there and starting new friendships but would be happy to have a cuppa (or wine) with your wife if she wants, I work in a school so off work for another few weeks! And I’m sure my hubby wouldn’t mind a beer or 2 - we’d be happy to lend an ear for you both to unload [emoji2] Sally Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I had really great service from PSS, friendly, efficient and competitive price. They did everything they said they would at the price they quoted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Perhaps you need to think of it from his point of view, you say he's at a selfish age but perhaps he thinks you're the selfish ones. You're the ones who want to uproot him from his life for a third time, he probably thinks you'll be home again in time if he stays in the UK. I know you won't like my input but I think you need a balanced point of view. Good luck with what you decide. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm living in Duncraig at moment and need to find new rental here - if it's near Glengarry Primary and has a pool and available by 21/3/16 I'd be interested!
  6. I use tumble dryer all the time in the winter, but I'd wait and buy one here if you're gonna get one.
  7. Yes my sons got the phone and has updated it recently.
  8. I got my iPhone 5 unlocked through this website - was a bit worried about paying out £30 as was skeptical it would work, but phone was successfully unlocked in about 36 hrs. https://www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk/
  9. You're lucky, my son just missed the cut off date as his birthday is 9th July, which means he dropped back a year, he'd done 4 months in year 6 before coming here and now he's back in year 5 - his friends back home have now left primary and are about to start high school whilst he's got another year and a half of primary to do - so in effect if we stay here he'll do an extra year and a half at school because of 9 days!!
  10. Or people could just skim over the threads they are not interested in or are bored of and let others ask the questions that they feel they need to!!
  11. Hi, can u put a pic on please, is it universal for all cars? Whereabouts are you?
  12. Call me stupid if u want, but I've just realised that u get a better rate the more money u transfer! So I've been transferring £10000 at a time with Moneycorp, whereas if I'd have just transferred the whole lot of our money I'd have got a better rate and several hundred dollars more!! I only did it like that because there is a daily limit with my bank on how much I can transfer!
  13. Fantastic news, here are some photos to get u really excited!!
  14. I've got a job!! Start on 2nd June doing Admin in a posh all girls boarding school - think they liked my English accent! Now making the most of my time relaxing, so glad the weather is still beautiful.
  15. Hi JenPen, we are living in Duncraig been here 3 months so if u need any help when u get here give us a shout [emoji2]
  16. Hi Just sent u a pm, would like to meet up with new people, if you're arranging anything it'd be good to come along.
  17. That's great, pity about the rain although weather is supposed to get better from weds again. What areas are you looking at? So much to do in your first couple of weeks, it's all exciting though, good luck with everything.
  18. Hi, we've been here since beginning of feb. We moved having never visited Australia and everyone told us we were mad, what if we didn't like it etc. However what's not to like? There is so much here and it is stunningly beautiful. Our kids (10 & 8) did not want to come, but they are settled in school and having a great time. I have had a little wobble since we've been here, thinking what on earth have we done leaving our good life, jobs, house, and great family and friends, but a leisurely walk beside the ocean with my husband was enough to remind me of our reasons! My husband hasn't got a job yet and has found it frustrating having to do courses to get a license to enable him to work. We speak to our friends and family on FaceTime and Skype.
  19. Hi, yes it is really good to have all our stuff and our own place, starting to feel normal again - we just need to get jobs now!! Lol. See u after Easter then, good luck with your move x
  20. I won't be coming this morning as we've moved into our rental this week and busy unpacking! See u next week
  21. Oh cool, looks a bit brighter now - and it's not like it's the cold miserable rain of England! See u in a bit
  22. Oh blast - stupid rain! I take it no one will be walking today, or do u just meet for coffee instead?!
  23. Do u have any contacts in the plumbing/gas business? my husband has just finished his plumbing course and is just waiting for his license - he now needs to get his foot in the door somewhere to start earning back all the money we've paid out!!
