  1. Same for us. We went down to Fremantle and saw our boat coming in on the Wednesday and got the call the following Tuesday to say it had cleared customs and it was ready for delivery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hi Arwen, I hope we didn’t get our container delivered today! It just arrived into Fremantle 2 days ago so we are waiting on confirmation of delivery all being well with the customs clearance. We don’t move until next Friday. I’ll message you in case we are nearby (I know the owners are moving up north so perhaps it was their removals). Maybe we could catch up for a quick cuppa if you fancied? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks Arwen, that sounds great. I’ll drop you a message once we are a bit more settled if we need any info. Much appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Thanks everyone, think we will go to Mullaloo, we went to the park there the other day but didn’t venture to the beach. I would be happy staying at home and having a roast but my husband wants to try the beach. Like you Jen it will give us something to do. I hope you have settled in well and have a great Christmas. 5. So we made it here just 3 weeks ago and have been busy finding our feet and getting the essentials sorted. Christmas is going to be a strange one this year but hoping the kids will have fun and welcome some more toys to play with. Anyone got ideas of the best beach or park to go to on Xmas day NOR? We are staying in Woodvale at the moment and have a rental sorted in Connolly mid Jan. If there is anyone in this neck of the woods with children (or who likes a wee glass of wine with me) would be great to meet up. My daughter will start Connolly primary in year 2 in the new year and would love to make some friends to help her through this transition. Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone! 6. Hi Emma, we are moving over to Perth and fly out 3rd December. Hilary’s primary is on our shortlist to visit and we would be happy meeting up if there’s time. It’s going to be quite hectic when we first arrive as we need to sort schools, rental, car etc but would be lovely to speak to someone who’s making the big move too. Fee free to PM me. 7. Hi, conscious we only have about 6 left of life in the UK. Apart from family and friend things and all the other stresses of preparing for the big move is there anything else people wish they had done before they went? We need to move out our house a few days before we fly. So thinking we might get a hotel in the city and take in beautiful Edinburgh one last time although I’m sure we will still be frantically running about getting organised! It’s going to be awful saying our final goodbyes to family especially my parents and MIL and think I will need a large wine/vodka on the flight! I wish we could skip all that until my folks come out to see us. Any advice on leaving parents/grandparents behind? :-( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks for the extra info Sue. We have decided to use Doree Bonner. They have had good recent reviews from what I’ve read and seemed very thorough when they visited the house. They have also lowered their quote to match another one we had so that helps too! I fully expect there to be some hiccups but fingers crossed our container makes it to our door without too many issues. We are staying in Woodvale for the first month whilst we look at some suburbs and aim to get a longer term rental somewhere near a school we like for my daughter. Likely to be north but until we get over and see more we are not sure. We will be looking at schools as soon as we arrive closely followed by rentals, jobs and all the other essentials. It’s going to be a crazy time but I don’t mind a challenge! Good luck with your move, I hope it all goes well. Eglinton looks like a nice place to live but probably too far out for us as we’re likely to be working in CBD and don’t want to commute that far unless we really have to. 9. Hi Sue, that's exciting about your imminent move. We are heading out at the start of December and trying to decide what shipping company to go with. We've had several quotes and a few people out but still don't really have a gut feeling. Any tips on choosing? Think it's between Doree Bonner, Pickfords and Anglo Pacific. 10. That's a great story Rossmoyne. I think Singapore Airlines still may do that but our visa is validated already and we wanted to fly from our local airport. So we have booked with Etihad and have added on a couple of extra bags on top of our allowance and may add more. Just having a look at concierge services which will assist at the airport but looks like these do exists so that's good. Doesnt look like we will be taking our car seats now tho so another thing to arrange when we get there. Thanks again for the heads up on that one!
  11. Thanks. I will check out the car seats to see the requirements as completely forgot about that. Hopefully at least one our two seats can be used if not will be one less thing to transport and one more thing to buy when we arrive! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Ok so figured out the excess baggage options just need to see what services there are to help with bags at Edinburgh and Perth airports. Anyone know about such a thing at either of these airports? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Hi, We are emigrating soon and looking to find out if anyone has taken excess baggage on their flights and if so did you use any services to assist with bags at the airport? We will have our 2 kids and car seats as well as cases. We would like to take excess baggage but just not sure what our options are here. Thanks Karen
  14. Hi peeches, We have just been looking into all the pet transfer requirements and getting prices. We were advised by Pet Air it's 1800 AUD for quarantine and have just been quoted just over £600 to fly our dog to Perth. All the info we have had from Pet air has been good and best prices compared with Airpets and Jet Pets. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks verystormy for your reply. I appreciate there's an economic downturn at the moment and all the main IT hubs are over the east. My husband is an IT contractor here and does system testing and I work more on the infrastructure side. Once we have dates finalised we may try and line work up ahead of coming out. Looking at various jobs sites there are plenty we can both apply for so hopefully we will be fine. With regards to the shipping it was Anglo Pacific that discussed reclaiming VAT back on any new items we may decide to buy if we were to try and fill a container. We will need to look into that further. Thanks for the advice on rentals. We only have the one dog and she is well trained so hopefully that will help when looking for places. I have looked into petair and they have been very good so far and better price wise than others. We are just trying to clarify our dog's rabies vaccine requirements as I believe we have been wrongly advised by our vets which we are very annoyed about but our vet is getting in touch with pet air tomorrow to discuss this. I suspect our vet is to blame and this will delay our pet transfer date :-( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Hi, Just wanted to say hello and thanks for this little place to chat and find useful info! We applied for visas back in 2008 and almost 10 years later, 1 dog and 2 kids we are finally getting ready to make the move! Hoping to get there before the schools close so we have time to look round a few but we are just about to get our house up for sale so depends how long that takes. My daughter is only 6 but is already worrying about making new friends so thought if she is able to see some schools before we enroll her it may help. We are looking at northern suburbs at the moment more likely a bit further out but with easy access to transport links. Both my husband and I work in IT and plan to get jobs once we get there (slightly risky I know). With regards to childcare, my son is in private nursery here but wondering if we may be best looking for an au pair or childminder. We have no family in Perth and although our niece may be coming to stay and can child mind I thought this may be an easier option whilst we set our life up from scratch. Anyone got any info on these types of services? We are also still deciding on how much to ship. Most of our belongings are inexpensive and need replaced but do wonder if we should buy some things here first and fill a container. Has anyone done this and reclaimed the VAT on items and was this cost effective? I also worry that if we don't take enough we will spend too much time dragging the kids round shops buying things instead of enjoying the lifestyle we are moving there for. We are looking at various rentals initially but do find that we are sometimes limited on ones that accept pets in an area we like. Does anyone have advice on pet transfers? We have just had a couple of quotes but way more expensive than we realised, probably because last time we looked was years ago and Perth quarantine maybe still existed then! Any advice on areas that are nice for young families but also dog friendly would be good. Thanks K Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
