    Young Family in UK

Not with kids. Getting a visa is the biggest initial hurdle. You can get a qualification in the UK. Takes a few years, then you need some years experience. Before you know it you're 5 - 8 years down the track and the job may not be on the list any more. So I wouldn't do that JUST to get to AU. And do you really want to wait for so many years? You mentioned new zealand... and you mentioned you hate cold...are you sure that adds up?

    HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!

I understand the 21st or may has a meaning. Pub holiday wise it would be a bummer. The weather is much nicer in Jan

    Merry Christmas

I thought the RRV approval was instant. Or do you request an extension due to Covid19? The searching for Aussie uni's is a promising sign I reckon @pegg

Ah bugger to hear your son is still dead against it @pegg. I hoped he would be swayed by now. how old is he now? i reckon you'll be alright with business class. I have done it twice and no issues. But you'l have to see what the world looks like by then.

    Merry Christmas

The endless blue sky is terrific alright. does that mean you guys will go as soon as covid19 travel restrictions lay down? Or not sure yet @pegg? I haven't enjoyed the sun at all! Last 3 months I have flown to Europe twice as my mom is not doing well. So 7 weeks in Europe, 4 weeks in quarantine and 4 weeks at home i'm released in 2 days. I have surfed only once since june.. first it was winter and was away with my dirtbike each weekend. Then I had to travel. And now we are expecting another daughter in 2 weeks. So I reckon not much surfing either can't wait to sneak out for a short surf though. Smart move to rent first. Hopefully things cleared up rentalwise by then. There is quite a shortage at the moment.

    (re)Applying for 189 Visa

Blame covid19 and apeak to an agent I would say...
  10. Not sure if you will ever enjoy it any more. Going to be demolished. I always take the ocean drive home after a surf at Scarborough. Grab a coffee there, tuen up the volume in my car and just cruise along the coast up to Ocean reef road. Edit: If I can tind a parking spot that is... the neighbourhood around it must hate it.
  11. As a business owner and as a consumer most people are willing to help out the small or local business owners compared to the big local chains. We have Rob with the Dome cafe in Butler, thomasdanial with his tree management. Who else has a business? What do you do? P.s. this isn't about a big topic of commercial spam, it's just an overview of reputable members who have their own local business. Be nice andisten to Ali:

    Anyone waiting to migrate?

I can imagine it sucks. As Stormy suggested there are flights, but I would wait a bit longer, unless you have a job lined up or you have a very high demand/specific skill. Things are slowly picking up again (business wise) but there is still a lot of mess to be cleared with a lot of jobless people. As I said, things are picking up again, so you will be fine. It's just a matter of not rushing into it imho.

    Moving later this year

Beldon is a pretty decent suburb. Craigie next to it a bit less (and smaller/older) houses. Padbury is a biter nicer than Beldon but more expensive. All suburbs west of Marmion Ave are far more expensive. We have lived in that area for a few years (and we still do, just 5 minutes east in Wanneroo south)
  14. Also check out local Facebook groups. You can either post there or look at posts of others as they sometimes tell you if there are available jobs.

    cashless welfare card ?

@pegg assuming it is a cashless wellfare card, what is the problem with it?

    Moving to WA

I can't imagine an experienced salea manager having trouble finding work. As a marketing freelancer I am flat out and refusing work.

    are folks still emigrating ?

No need for the passive aggressiveness. I'm in not in one industry either, but again, I don't notice the downturn at all, except from what I read from the news.

    Newbie on this forum

Pretty good areas. Most of them definitely more expensive. Hillarys at the top of the list, followed by Woodvale and duncraig (and Carine I think, I don't know carine that well) then followed by the rest. Depends on what you want. Hillarys is the closest to the ocean, but the most expensive. We have friends in Woodvale who paid 150k more for a house, just because it is in Woodvale, making their kids fall in the catchment area for the woodvale high school. edit: compared to Melbourne, all RE is probably cheap.

I guess it's who you have in your network. I am not in construction professionally and in my personal network I don't know a lot of people who are in construction. For you it's probably the opposite, hence you experience so many stories. Not perse... We've got some quotes from cabinet makers for example and they seemed to be doing fine. Often inflated prices and a few weeks of waiting.

It's also depends on the market and your experience. I seem to be getting plenty of referral work for marketing and friends of mine who are in web development can't keep up with the work either. That said both of us also work for international clients, but get local clients as well. Wifey works for government, so stable job. To be honest, I don't know anyone personally who has trouble having work (although no one switched in the last 3 or so years), ranging from swimming teachers to IT people to marketing, marketing & sales, social worker. But I see stories online that it is difficult from people trying to get a job. That's sad... I cannot see how you can enjoy life when you have heaps of financial worries.
  21. Like stormy says, plenty of of natives who are either not passing or not getting full points for it. Says enough about the test imho, but hey it is how it is. All the best with your next test.
  22. I was having some personal problems resulting in not being able to settle anywhere. Had to come in peace with myself so to speak. Costly? Oh yes... Did we hurt family and old friends by leaving again? Oh yes... Still a good decision? I think so, I needed those two moves to get everything straight. But for my wife it would have been better if we didn't. So it depends on the person I guess.
  23. Speak to your moving company and hear what they say. We scheduled it in such a way we wanted to have our sruff 4 weeks after landing in Perth. They said 6 weeks (if I recall correctly! Including clearance at the border). So we shipped it 2 weeks before we left
  24. Check gumtree for whitegoods when you are here in December. Can't help with the school question
  25. It takes 10-12 weeks to ship?! Only took us 6 weeks (the 3 times we've done it)
