January - Good time to move?

Cheers Rossmoyne. Everything seems to be lining up for January. We'll just have to prepare for being out of work until things pick up.

January - Good time to move?

Looking likely to be end of January when we move over. So on the cons side it'll be the middle of summer and scorching and the jobs market will be slow. Not sure about rental market? On the pros side, it should be good for the kids starting a new school year in Feb (I think)? And it ticks a lot of other boxes for us such as house sale, and being able to finish work with a payoff that will allow us a 3-6 months to settle and find work. Also it'll be mid cricket season which will be a big plus to help my eldest settle and make friends. Just looking for a bit of advice from those who have gone before us...? TIA

Fantastic! Bet it's been a real whirlwind. You'll just be catching your breath after 2 weeks. I haven't made the move yet, but I'm sure others who have will be along soon! Had you done a reccie before going?

    Anyone in/near Secret Harbour?

Hi - I was based in Secret Harbour for a reccie April/May this year. Didn’t get the time to look at the schools, so can’t help you on that one but I really liked the place and got a good vibe. The Whistling Kite has a mixed reputation, but I found it does decent meals and staff were welcoming of our kids (aged 9 and 5). We often walked back to our rental in the dark after a meal and felt as safe as houses. The shopping centre is not great but was undergoing a major expansion that I think might have opened now? You’ll find it dead easy and quick to get to Mandurah from there (btw I liked Mandurah too!). For getting into Perth, we used the train stations at Warnbro and Rockingham rather than Mandurah. Struggled to get a parking space at Warnbro, but Rockingham has an overflow across the main road that has loads of spaces. As VeryStormy said above, don't commit yourself to a suburb until you get there but have a shortlist of half a dozen or so, as a few that I thought I would like just didn't feel right. Hope your visa comes quickly!

    Off season junior cricket

Hi - we're doing a visa validation run end of April to mid May. I'd like to give my son a taster of joining in with an Aussie junior cricket club for a few sessions while we're there. I'm guessing that training will have closed down after the summer so we may be out of luck? We're staying Secret Harbour but could travel anywhere SOR. Any info would be great!
