Hi all, I have my 189 visa granted (yay!) and I am a qualified teacher with a degree from a UK Uni and over 6 years teaching experience. I am trying to get myself registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB) of WA but there is so much conflicting information about which registration I can actually go for! It seems that I cannot get a full registration as I have not taught in Aus yet, but I also cannot go for a limited registration either. Does anyone have any experience with registering themselves? I don't want to ask the TRB themselves as they charge over $300 for advice!!! Any help will be greatly appreciated
Hi all, I'm a Humanities teacher originally from the UK, an Australian permanent resident living in Sydney wanting to move to Perth or surrounding area. I've been teaching in two academically selective, state schools in Sydney over the past 3 years and have 2 years experience teaching in the UK. I love Sydney, however the price of property is just ridiculous! My OH and I are on the verge of having a deposit and starting a family, and have come to the conclusion that we want a garden and beach lifestyle, this is impossible in Sydney unless you have $1,500,000. Anyway, I lived in Perth about 8 years ago, I have family and friends there and feel this is the place to start my family. I'm in the process of registering to teach with the WA education department. I know Humanities jobs are hard to come by, especially by merit selection as there are tonnes of applicants for each position. I would love to stay in the public system, however I am open to going into the private sector if it enables me to move to Perth. Has anyone transferred from NSW to WA? Or have heard of anyone who has secured a job in WA whilst working in NSW? I'm not under any illusions, I know this will be difficult to achieve but it's worth a try! Thanks in advance
Morning all, Have any Secondary School teachers had any success in securing work prior to arrival in WA? The 190 VISA means I would basically be leaving a secure job in the UK with potentially no employment upon arrival in Australia. (although reading the posts on here it looks as though relief/supply work would be available) I wondered how many teachers on here managed to secure employment sponsorship for their visa prior to arrival and have any information / advice as to how they went about it? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance, Ryan
Well - we are now the proud owners of two positive AITSL skills assessment certificates (teacher skills assessment)!! Have to say that we were a bit worried, as we graduated over 20 years ago, so it was hard work getting the paperwork together, but AITSL didn't query anything, and were obviously happy with what we sent! AITSL emailed on 5th March to say that they had received our documents. By the 21st May the application tracking page showed 'Application complete' for one of the applications, and two days later the 2nd application had the same message. That was 11 weeks since 5th March. It then took a week for the results and certificates to arrive. The reason for the two assessments was one for the main applicant, and one for partner skills points..... State Sponsorship next..........
