I went with Vodafone when I was there. I was told they were the worst but I had no problems at all with getting a signal and the data was really fast. They did a $50 recharge which had a fair bit of data with it.

As for paperwork I just used my UK driving licence. Paid the $50 in cash. They set it all up and was up and running straight away. Rockingham City mall.

Coastie.

Usually, it's photoid required, I've bought quite a few over the years and always show my driving license. I expect passport and some evidence of your initial address on arrival would suffice. I know when we first arrived, we gave the address of the motel we were stopping in for the first couple of nights.

If your moving from the UK. When you open an Anz bank account they will send you a free opus payg sim card. They also send you an offer to double your baggage allowance to 45kg if you fly with Emirates. You can sort it out whilst your still in the UK. They also put you in touch with a currency exchange company. Hope this helps

Just to clarify for others. Emirates baggage allowance on economy is 30kg for hold luggage so double that is 60kg if my maths is right. Do you mean they give you a 50% increase in baggage allowance which would be an additional 15kg equalling a total of 45kg? Not trying to be pernickity just a clarification.

Sorry used the wrong word. They increase your baggage to 45kg. Although if you book with Singapore airlines they doubke your baggage to 40kg. As like ng as you have an unused migration visa and you have booked a one way ticket. Hope that clarifies it.

I would also recommend having clarification from singapore by way of an email of the increased baggaage allowance. We forgot ours and the check in girl who was less than friendly almost refused to give it to us. She ended up calling someone who authorised it.

re wifi, we had the owners of our holiday let add some credit to their wifi dongle so we used that the first few weeks. We then got our own payg one, just needed passport and proof of address for it. We have since switched to prepaid, which you pay monthly by direct debit. For this you need more id, driving license, bank card, medicare card and proof of income. But it is a lot cheaper!!!! With optus for 10gb is 35 dollars a month, for the payg 10gb was 8gb was 80 dollars.

telstra was very expensive for the same thing, almost double start up costs, but i think its because all their options are now 4g.

For internet, I've got a WividWireless HomeHub.

$90 a month and it's got reasonable speed, unlimited downloads, and you plug your phone in and get free international calls.

If you go down the routue, I think you can get an extra month free by being refered by me. Drop me a PM.

It basically uses a 3G network so there are no wires, or installation. We got it so we could use it in a rental, and it's been so good we've kept it in our house.

Only issue is it can be a bit slow (2-5mb/s).

Can't remember on the phone side of things, the guy at the shop lied on my form (saying i'd been here for years, not months) so I just got a contract. I'm on Optus, but I'll probably change at the end of the contract.

Thanks for this. I will ask them for some proof. Don't want to get stung with loads of extra baggage charges.
