Admin
I'd be surprised at someone failing the medical due to a hairline fracture. Health conditions conditions are assessed on the potential cost and impact on the Australian community resulting from the possible use of health and community services. The Medical Officer will assess, if a particular condition will resullt is a 'significant' cost. It used to be if the condition was likely to cost health/community services $20,000 or more over a 5 year period, then that would be described as 'significant' and as such, grounds for failing the medical. I'm pretty sure I read a few months ago that the $20,000 figure had been increased, but can't find the details to hand. EDITED TO ADD: The 'significant cost' threshold is now $35,

I don't believe the story about the hairline fracture for a moment. The medical should not present a problem for anyone with no known, serious, medical issues. If you are not aware of anything serious, then it is highly unlikely that you will fail the medical. That said, it is quite common for medicals to be referred, which at the moment is really slowing the process down, but most referred medicals will be passed as well in the end.
