Shri Vidhya
Hi, I got my Aust PR and moved in June 2013 to Perth. My family has not moved yet although we all got our PR as i wanted to first explore some work options and then have my family move. I am a HR Professional and got Skilled nomination from WA State Govt. I have been applying for many options that are advertised in Seek, applydirect and jobs.wa.gov.au. I am open to consider admin related job opportunities as well. It is very disappointing to note that i am not able to find a single job opportunity. I have quit from my job in India and came looking for better prospects in Australia, and i am getting beaten by no local experience and no opportunities. I am not sure if i am doing anything wrong... I will be extremely grateful, if i have anyone share some insights in this direction and let me know if there are any other aspects of jobsearch that i am missing... Thanks Shri. Bibbs
Forget agencies. For one of the big ones i finally got contact regarding a job 26 months after I registered. Glad i wasn't waiting. Best bet is to almost be door knocking.
lozzachino
People advise phoning up about jobs as well before and after you have applied to get your application noticed. many jobs get over a hundred applications so if yours doesnt stand out or match requirements exactly plus some more, then you wont have a chance. Have you asked for any feedback for the jobs you have been unsuccessful in? Perhaps they will be able to point out any strengths or weaknesses in your applications. E government jobs are normally very good at feedback, the private companies not so much.
CharliePappa
Thing to remember, like anywhere, its a numbers game! The more contact you can make with the biggest number of people the more chance you have to get noticed. My recent "self-pimping" on Linkedin went like this! FREE PROJECT COORDINATOR! Free Project Coordinator with every $70k+ annual donation. Grab yourself a bargain. Top of the range, slightly mature model with plenty of miles under the bonnet. PM for more details. The way to get noticed is to make sure that people remember you for the right reasons. I wont tell you my other methods because I've had to learn them the hard way. But I will wish you good luck. verystormy
The job market in Perth is getting a lot tighter at the moment. A friend of mine who was laid off from mining has been applying for anything and everything. The other week he applied for a job delivering newspapers (he is a highly skilled and experienced geoscientist but can’t get anything in what he does). He didn’t get the job delivering newspapers which was only paying minimum wage because apparently they had over 100 applicants. Another friend was laid off today. He knew it was going to happen and has been job hunting for a month but with no luck, though he is on a 457 visa which makes it a lot harder.
