Anna
My 21 year old son is due to fly out to Perth at the end of October on a Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa. In June 2010 he acquired a Triple Distinction in Edexcel Level 3 GTEC National Diploma in Construction. He then, in April 2013, completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours University in Quantity Surveying, Class: 2:1. During his time in college, plus university he has gained work experience in bathroom installations, plumbing, joinery, tiling, plaster boarding and basic construction works. He has also participated in the quotations of all installations. He is concerned that on his arrival there will not be any job opportunities, he is initially willing to do any form of labouring. I went to the jobs and skills expo in Perth on Friday to see what the possibilty of future employment is for him, it certainly is a minefield. I have read many articles stating that Quantity Surveyors are in great demand here, however, when you look on 'seek' all positions are looking for someone with experience, which unfortunately he does not have yet. Does anyone in the construction industry know of any reputable firms that would consider my sons current situation. Any advice would be very much appreciated...
