YorkieFamily
Hi Has anyone ever used IMO to book flights and did it benefit you or is it just as well to book direct? Steve
Nikkis2000
Hi, We emailed them yesterday but ended up booking direct with Singapore after reading comments on here that they will double the allowance to 40kg anyway. I emailed Singapore this morning an just waiting for confirmation. Nikki
StraighttothePoint
Hi Has anyone ever used IMO to book flights and did it benefit you or is it just as well to book direct? Steve If you travel with Emirates for example, and book direct via their website, then as part of the booking you get complete control over seating, i.e you can book the ones you want, and also you can book the meals you want. Trick is here to book a meal other than Standard and you get served first before everyone else and so when the rest of the plane are all eating at the same time, finished at the same time and causing havoc all trying to get to the loos at the same time you are calm and collected. If you order a non Standard meal then you will have eaten slightly earlier and had full access to empty loos ahead of the envitable calvary charge. Not sure on how it works on other airlines but after 10 years of regular travel back and forward then doing it this way is a real benefit to your peace of mind and well being on the long flight Edited August 3, 2013 by StraighttothePoint
Nikkis2000
We managed to book our seats on Singapore too. Exit seats upstairs on the A380 as per previous advise on here. Will definitely bear in mind the meals option for the future - top idea. In fact I might log on and see if I can change our booking. Just need to convince OH he wants to go veggie!! On Emirates there is a choice of about 15 / 20 types so sure that veggie will not be the alternative!! Go fish....
ali
We didn't use them when we moved because the flight times weren't really what we wanted. We only ended up paying a couple of hundred more, got the increased baggage allowance but more importantly the flights that were the best for us with minimal turn around time and landing in the afternoon here in Perth. waynel
We used them, saved about £200 a ticket and got flights with only 1hr45min stopover arrived at midday in Perth. I think generally one-way tickets are pretty expensive in comparison to returns. If you are going oneway to get the additional baggage allowance it is definitely worthwhile emailing them. Nikkis2000
Out of interest (because its been raised on another thread) what sort of prices did you pay via IOM? As a comparison we just paid £632 each for a Singapore airlines flight that leaves mid morning and gets to Perth mid afternoon. They have also confirmed we get double baggage allowance as the visa is inactivated and is a one way ticket. Nikki's
waynel
we paid £620 for adults and £520 for the kids - the dates we were looking to go were all well over £700 booking direct with the airlines , this was probably because we wanted to fly from gatwick and I dont think there is much choice from there? We left just before midday, 1 3/4 hr stopover in Dubai and straight to perth arriving at midday here. IOMs prices are probably set at those levels - not sure if there would be as much variation as the actual airlines themselves but there was no worry about the extra baggage allowance. The check-in guys at the airport seemed pretty shocked that we had 40kgs each but even saying that, after they put our 12 bags through, we were 3kg over and they let it go (when he was writing down weights to total them up he rounded down every time - think we must have been about 6or 7 kg over in total! After you email IOM and get your quote there is still time to check airlines prices to see which is cheapest - so it is a bit of a no-brainer to at least check with them. Walkabout
Hi, Who do you contact at IOM? I have on my visa grant just a link to their website, but wasnt sure where to start! is it just their general contact? and do you have to be specific with dates when you contact them? sorry to ask so many obvious questions! Thanks
waynel
Hi initially contacted osu@iom.int from the website , and got a reply from bookingsuk@iom.int The general gist of their reply was as follows; In order to give you a travel quote please specify: - Number of passengers (please provide the age if your family includes children under 12 years old) - the city of departure - the city of arrival - Estimated date of departure From that they gave us a choice of departure airports and some different fares depending on flights/airline. At this point it would be easy to check what you can get direct and make a decision.
Candygirl
We booked through IOM. We have paid £630 each with Malaysia Airlines via KL and also reserved seats on both flights to Perth at the time of booking. May was the lady who helped us. Our flight leaves at 10.00am from Heathrow, 1.55 stopover in KL, and arrive in Perth at 3.00pm, so good flight times for us. We also got the 40kg luggage allowance as we have not activated yet. Booked through IOM got the seats booked fine but you're bang on with the meals....took forever to sort out. Probably about 45 mins between meals!! IOM were superb though, no problems what so ever. darren

Everything is all booked, we are just patiently (well trying) to sit and wait for things to start to happen.

Akasully2
This is the first time I have ventured into the 'Transport & Shipping' forum. So far I have been obsessed with houses and areas which lead on from the visa application threads. I feel like we are making progress just by noting which of the threads I read up on! Sorry to sound ignorant, but what is IOM? Presumed it was a regular travel agent until someone said it was on their visa. Do the flight costs vary much from Jan to March? I guess we will fly with Singapore airlines as we have been collecting virgin air miles for ages to get a discount with their associate airline. What are they like to fly with? So, transport and shipping are now to be the new food of choice for my newly acquired OCD!
Levi
Hi Akasully2, IOM stands for International Organization for Migration. Some people contact IOM to get the double baggage allowance, which is 40 kg on certain flights. For more info read this thread too: http://www.perthpoms.com/forum/transport-shipping/12388-one-way-vs-return.html
