Lou8670
I'm planning to do some car boots over the coming weeks and want to get rid of anything we don't want, can't ship, or should perhaps consider selling as we should only ship with caution!!! I have heard you cannot ship wicker but I have no idea what else that you cannot ship or should ship with caution. For instance can you ship a wine? Or should we try an drink the copious amounts of red wine my MIL brought back from France (I don't drink red lol!) Lou
portlaunay
This should tell you all you need to know; http://www.daff.gov.au/biosecurity/travel/moving-emigrating Australia is rightly very protective of its borders when it comes to critters. In the past the accidental and deliberate introduction of a variety of flora and fauna has had a devastating affect on the natural biodiversity. Blackberry features on the Weeds of National Significance register here and is, along with all the others, estimated to cost $4bn a year in controls. Cane toads, rabbits and camels are just some of the animals introduced that are now subject to a pretty intensive and costly controls programme and in some states it's illegal to keep a rabbit as a pet. If you do happen to have any camels I'd offload those at the bootsale if I were you. If you're inclined to err on the side of caution then ditch anything that might hide or trap seeds or insects. I don't think cane and wicker is necessarily the problem, it's the fact that little insects or seeds might hitch a ride. If you really are attached to that wicker peacock chair then you're welcome to bring it, it will just be sprayed with insecticide on arrival and you'll have a bill for the privilege. As for the wine, I think you can bring it but you'll have to declare it and possibly pay GST on it.
Guest guest10912
I left my wicker behind as it was easiest thing to do. Brought some wine over, declared it, paid tax.

lozzachino
I wouldnt bother bringing wine unless its really special stuff, not worth the hassle for just a few bottles either. the things we had opened, but passed by customs were shoes, vacuum, riding boots and cricket gear. make sure anying that has been outdoors has been cleaned. We used zolflora as recommended by our shipper. V cheap and smells nice. if you have decent bookshelves bring them, they are so flipping expensive here!!! Wish i had shipped a few flat packs of small argos ones, they were only 12 quid each! Would have been happy to pay gst on them!!

Nikkis2000
Just tidying the house for another viewing today and we have SO much tat to get rid of and as we'll as copious amounts of wine we have bottles and bottles of vodka, Bacardi, gin, etcetera! We were in the same position so we had a party for all our friends. Told them not to bring anything and made loads of punch and cocktails! There were quite a few sore heads the next day! We recently started "the big clean" and have adopted the attitude of if we drown everything in Jeyes fluid, then when they open the container the smell will be so strong they'll know everything is clean! With regard to shoes (especially the work variety) I am going to wear what I've got into the ground and chuck them before we move (having been on a shopping spree for summer shoes in the sales!) Lou8670
I looked at the list of questionable items for shipping and photo albums are on it in the same category as wicker and wood. Does anyone know what that means? Ive been clearing out the loft and have a heap of old albums from my uni days which I'm not so fussed about and will just keep/ scan the photos onto a hard drive if needs be but we'll want to bring our wedding album! Nikkis2000
Hi Lou, I think it means the type of album that is made of natural materials. We've got one we bought in Hawaii that's made of 'fibrous' paper and has leaves stuck on it. Gutted that we'll have to chuck it (obvs not the photos) but it was one of our honeymoon purchases :0( Nikki

Lou8670
Or. We could borrow your boat ha ha. That's if ya haven't sold it yet pmsl. Debs Haha...yep still have the boat....the OH has missed the boat on selling it this year lol, pardon the pun! Trouble is it barely made it across the bay this summer before the engine broke down! It's a sailing boat too LOL!!! Anyway, I'm doing quite well this week...finished the white wine Edited September 23, 2013 by Lou8670
Lou8670
Shame about your wedding album Nikkis2000! I've got some old albums where it's the traditional pressed paper (in fact I think my wedding album is too). Would hate to throw them! Do you think I can ship them or not? They don't have any straw or dodgy leaves on the cover Edited September 23, 2013 by Lou8670
Nikkis2000
I I think I'm just going to try losing it at the bottom of a box under a pile of innocent stuff! I realised after writing my post last night that the comments book we had at the wedding is made of natural stuff too. I am definitely not leaving that behind as there are some entries in there from people who have now passed on. I'll risk the wrath of Aussie quarantine!! AndyandJo
The only thing we got caught out with was Christmas decorations, just make sure all cones, twigs are removed.
Guest guest9824
As Andy and Jo say, christmas decos, had some lovely swags and twiggy, coney things, they all had to go, cost me a fortune too! All the candles had to go too, there is a shop called Dusk here, for candles but they are quite expensive compared to somewhere like Au Naterale (if its still going), also Ikea for candles! We left alot of OH's dirty tools and garden equipment we couldnt get it clean enough! Some contraband made its way ok though, some bottles of unopened liquers and bubbles:wink: but its up to you to take the risk. If you get caught there would be duty payable. Good luck with drinking your stash!
Lou8670
Just wondering, I have a painted wicker laundry basket (I'm not sure if it's plastic or wicker to be honest as its painted). Would this be a problem to ship? On the customs website it lists wicker in the same category as wood.
