We're currently living in WA,been here 1yr.The company closed down leaving everyone out of jobs and no wages, holiday pay,etc paid out. Desperately trying to find new employer willing to take over sponsorship as has to happen within 90 days! We have 2 young kids and relocated everything. We need help asap and tried lots Engineering companies with no luck. The company hasn't the funds to repatriate us back to UK either, but this would be a very last resort. Don't have the funds to apply for permanent residency at this time as barley surviving to buy food. Worrying position to be in,our options seem to be running out! Any advice would be appreciated.

All you can do is keep looking for a sponsor. As you are probably aware, the economy is taking a big hit at the moment, particularly in WA, so I would be looking all across Oz.

If the worst happens, they are compelled by law to repatriate you. Though they are only compelled to provide air tickets. They are not required to provide shipping costs. The administrator of the company if it has gone bust would be required to shoulder this.

Been applying everyday for jobs all over Oz, but all saying same that not taking on 457visa at moment due to economic downturn so nothing moving! We know by law they have to repatriate but the MD/Owner of the company has made it clear there is no funds for this and all the workers are still owed large amounts of wages etc. The administrators handed the company back to the MD once out of administration, however banks/auctioneers have now moved in and company has closed it's doors. It's a bit of a grey area at moment and such a mess. If company officially goes bust the employees will get monies owed but this hasn't happened yet so no wages getting paid out and out of a job! No one giving us straight answers and we can't get any financial help as not Permanent Residents we've been told. If we repatriate we also loose all our belongings as no funds to ship back. Horrible situation to be in especially with kids.

I believe there is a government fund that will pay out if the employer can not fund repatriation. It might be worth giving Go Matilda a call - I am sure they will offer some free advice on this.

Unfortunately your not the first and won't be the last to suffer the issues of 457. That's why there are a lot of us that rail against them, particularly for families.

Are there any family in the UK that could help with a loan to pay shipping?

I know that officially there are no benefits available for 457 holders. But, it might still be worth having a chat with centerlink to see if there is any emergency help available.

Hi verystormy, just replied to you and Rupert on other thread also. We've been to Centrelink twice as getting harder to put food on table, they can't help and didn't suggest anyone who could!! We're very much out on our own at moment. Family members in the UK have already sent money to help keep roof over our head and food but nothing left, no one in position to send large amounts to help with shipping our stuff home. We have also been to St Vincent de Paul recently and they've helped us with food, these people are amazing! We're good people and we've worked hard all our lives and never been out of work so as you can imagine this is extremely difficult for us. I can't actually believe this is happening to us but I feel everything happens for a reason. Staying positive this will all turn out for the better, whatever that may be. Onwards and upwards eh. Thanks again.

You any good with aluminium bud? Try Austal ships; they gave me a job a few weeks after I landed with the offer of a 457 after probation period so sure they could take on your 457 if you have skills they wanted.

Thanks for this info greatly appreciated, and yes hubby has some experience working with aluminium. It sounds promising, cheers mate.
