ali
A couple of years ago we visited Exmouth - A colleague of my hubbys asked him where we were staying on the way ... "thought we'd do it in one go" said the hubby ... quick check on the map made us realise it was a fair trek ... so we did break it up with an overnight stop in Kalbarri (on the way there and back). Any stories about going somewhere and it being a little further than you anticipated?
lozzachino
We took the lift up to St Peters Cupola in Rome, and then walked the miilion and a half stairs to the top and then back down again. Got to the lift and there was a big queue, so I convinced my friend to take the stairs down to the bottom, seeing as we had already done 'the worst bit'. Oh how wrong i was! Rossmoyne
Went to the top of the Rock of Gibralter in the cable car thingy....... said cable car thingy then broke down when it was time to descend, so the group of us old farts decided to walk down........ lets just say that none of the four of us could walk properly for a good week..... you have no idea how steep that walk down is or how long because it winds around the rock a cazillion times!!! Redsquare
I once asked an old friend for a snog. She said yes even though we both expected it to be terrible. That was nearly 4 years ago. Tonight she's falling asleep on the sofa next to me, 8500 miles from where we used to call home.

You must have that circular breathing down and everything.
flatpack
I drove from Exmouth to Perth in one go on Xmas Eve 2008. Had one 15 minute break on the way. When we got near to Joondalup on the side roads it was scarily dark on roads that we didn't know!
nikkiwd
I drove from Exmouth to Perth in one go on Xmas Eve 2008. Had one 15 minute break on the way. When we got near to Joondalup on the side roads it was scarily dark on roads that we didn't know! That is a long way, we took 6 days to get up there and 2 days to get back down and I thought the 2 days back was full on!
flatpack
We took 5 days to get there, we were in no rush (except the bit where we (I) got caught speeding)! But we wanted to get back for Xmas day so we went for it!
kezngaz
We took 3n half hours to get from lancelin to cervantez, due to having an old map that didnt show the 'new road'. When we arrived in Cervantes we asked where that new looking tarmac took you and the reply was 'Lancelin, bout 45 mins'. That was in 2010 when we first arrived. Last month we completed 'Australias longest shortcut' from Laverton WA to yulara NT,1200 kms of dirt and corrugations in 2 days, oh how things have changed!!!!!!! Plimthing
I used to drive from Birmingham to Ljubijana, Slovenia. It was 1097 Miles. With 90 mins rest on the ferry and a stop for Petrol at Stutgart. Thats a long way!
Guest guest9824
Further than you think!!! .....The first time we ever flew to Australia was 22 years ago. It was when Britannia Airways were doing really cheap return flights on Chartered flights to Perth. The cost was £400 to £500.00 return flying from Luton. So we would drive down south the day before, stay over in a travellodge and fly out to Perth the next day. Sleeping very little before and during the flight. The flight stopped three times in all, once at Skippol, then Sharja UAE and on to Singapore, then Perth. It seemed to take forever and felt like we had been travelling for around two to three days counting the drive down south, over night stay etc, and all crammed in a plane that usually does the trip to Alicante and back. When we finally landed at Perth, we got off the plane on the tarmac and walked from the plane to the arrivals (them were the days) The first thing that struck me was the brightness, Ive never experienced that brightness anywhere before or again! It truly did seem to be alot further than we ever thought. Thank goodness the flights with Emirates and the likes only take 19 hours tops...a walk in the park!
