LancashireLass
Wanting to buy a book to get revising for IELTS, is there any worth buying? It'll be my partner taking the test but we will both practice together so that I can help him. My partner says he prefers to revise from books rather than anything online. Thanks Jo :-)
Lou8670
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cambridge-IELTS-Self-study-Students-Answers/dp/110764562X/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_0 And others available on Amazon. I would definitely recommend getting the books with the CDs. Lou

LancashireLass
I am assuming he will need to take the 'general' test and not the 'academic'?? Please correct me if I'm wrong?! Sooooo much to get your head around isn't there?!!!

You may need to sit the academic for your skills assessment but if not and you just need extra points it will be the general test but recommend you check first. Others have fallen foul of sitting the wrong test and have had to re-sit. :argh:

Thanks Jo :-) You would be surprised how much online can be useful. One would get 30 hour free access to IELTS preparation material on British Council web site when you book for the exam. For a small sum you get unlimited access. But I found the following free site more effective and useful in preparing for IELTS than the British council site itself, in case if one is aiming for 7.0 or more. The site is hosted by guy called Dominic Cole and it's unbelievable, it's free and no adverts. Probably it's his passion!! http://www.dcielts.com/ Good luck

Sooooo much to get your head around isn't there?!!! Hi - as his an electrician, he'll just need the general test. My OH is also an electrician and he purchased the books - they worked wonders for him (his not an online kinda guy!) Shame as I've just sold them on ebay! He used "Top Tips for IELTS General Training Paperback with CD-ROM" and "Official IELTS Practice Materials 1" which had a load of sample test papers. The other option is to find the sample papers online (which I did) and just print them out. We found that really helped for his revision. LancashireLass
Wow thanks for all the good advice & help guys & gals! I don't know what I'd do without this site?! Probably use an agent haha. I haven't bought any books yet, will probably get a couple ordered this weekend and surf around for online practice papers to print out for my fella. He's still in Norway! Not back until the 18th, so I'll make sure I have lots of material for him to get practising with! Really hope we can get these extra points for the 190, would much prefer the 190 over the 489.
